The Harry Potter Trailer Just Dropped — Nothing Is the Same
HBO dropped its first teaser on March 25, 2026 — and revealed a premiere date nobody predicted. The trailer introduced an all-new cast, a new Hogwarts, and one bombshell casting twist.
HBO first announced the series in 2023. Filming officially began July 14, 2025, at Leavesden Studios — the very same stages where all 8 original films were shot.
Each season will adapt one of J.K. Rowling's seven novels — starting with Sorcerer's Stone. The books have sold over 600 million copies. The original films grossed $7 billion+.
Dominic McLaughlin steps into Harry's shoes. Arabella Stanton plays Hermione Granger. Alastair Stout is Ron Weasley. The trailer shows all three meeting — exactly as the books described.
30 Rock's John Lithgow takes the Headmaster's chair. Shaun of the Dead's Nick Frost plays the half-giant Hagrid. Janet McTeer (Ozark) is Professor McGonagall.
Paapa Essiedu — known for I May Destroy You — plays Severus Snape. It's a bold, diverse casting choice that's redefining the character for a new generation.
While some fans demanded a "faithful" cast, millions celebrated the fresh choices. Showrunner Francesca Gardiner (Succession) and director Mark Mylod (Game of Thrones) have made clear: this is a new vision, not a copy.
The trailer ended with the premiere date: Christmas Day, 2026 — a full year ahead of the previously announced 2027 date. Hans Zimmer, not John Williams, is composing the score.
HBO's Harry Potter isn't a remake — it's a full reimagining with an all-star cast, a legendary new score by Hans Zimmer, and a world-class creative team.
