How To Delete Teamspace In Notion

In an era where digital collaboration is key, Notion has emerged as a versatile tool that helps teams navigate their projects with ease. It allows users to create, manage, and collaborate in a shared workspace, known as a “teamspace.”

However, there may come a time when you need to declutter your Notion interface and remove a teamspace.

Understanding the Notion Workspace and Teamspace

Before we dive into the deletion process, it’s crucial to understand the difference between a workspace and a teamspace in Notion.

A workspace in Notion serves as a container for organizing information and creating content. It represents a distinct entity, whether it’s a personal project, a team project, or an entire business operation.

A teamspace, on the other hand, is a section within the workspace. It provides a dedicated area for different teams or departments within an organization to manage their specific tasks and projects. A workspace can house multiple teamspaces, each with varying levels of visibility and permissions, ranging from open, closed, to private.

Precautionary Measures Before Deleting Teamspace in Notion

Before you proceed with the deletion of a teamspace, you should be aware of the implications:

  1. Permanent Data Loss: Deleting a teamspace results in the permanent loss of all content within it, including pages, documents, databases, and files. These cannot be recovered.
  2. Disruption of Team Access: The deletion will remove all team members’ access to the teamspace’s content, potentially disrupting ongoing work and communication.
  3. Impact on Integrations: If your teamspace is connected to any third-party services or integrations, deleting it may affect those connections.
  4. Revocation of Permissions: The deletion will revoke any shared access or specific permissions that team members or guests had within the teamspace.
  5. Broken Links: If the pages within the teamspace are linked to other pages or databases in your workspace, deleting the teamspace might result in broken links.

Deleting vs. Leaving a Teamspace in Notion

Leaving and deleting a teamspace in Notion are two different actions with different consequences. When you leave a teamspace, you simply lose your membership to it, and you can no longer access or edit its content. However, leaving a teamspace does not affect other members or the teamspace itself.

On the other hand, deleting a teamspace permanently removes it and all its content from Notion. This action is irreversible, and it affects all members, who will also lose access to it.

How to Delete Workspace in Notion on Desktop

Deleting a workspace in Notion is a permanent action and cannot be undone. So, ensure you have backed up any essential information before proceeding with the following steps:

1. Open the Notion app or website on your Windows or Mac computer and go to Settings & members from the left pane.

Note: Make sure you are in the correct workspace before proceeding.

2. Go to Settings under the Workspace section from the left pane.

3. Scroll to the Danger Zone section in the right pane and click the Delete entire workspace button.

4. In the pop-up, type the workspace name you want to delete and click Permanently delete workspace.

Important: Notion does not allow you to delete a workspace from its mobile app.

How to Leave a Workspace in Notion Instead of Deleting It

There are benefits to leaving a workspace rather than deleting it. For instance, leaving a workspace keeps the collaboration history, which allows you to revisit discussions, comments, or changes made by team members. Additionally, you can quickly rejoin the workspace in the future without disrupting the workflow of others. Here’s how to leave a workspace:

On Desktop:

  1. Launch the Notion app on your Windows or Mac computer and click on the workspace name in the top left corner.
  1. From the drop-down menu, select the workspace you want to leave.
  2. Go to the Settings & member option in the left pane.
  3. Go to Settings under the Workspace section from the left pane.
  4. Scroll to the Danger Zone section in the right pane, and click the Leave workspace button.

Note: If you are a workspace owner, you will see the Leave workspace option next to the Delete entire workspace option.

  1. In the pop-up, select Leave to confirm.

On Notion Mobile App:

  1. Launch the Notion app and tap on the workspace name in the top left corner.
  2. From the bottom sheet, choose the workspace you want to leave.
  3. Once in the workspace, tap on the Members option.
  4. In the Members screen, tap on the chevron (down arrow) icon next to your account.
  5. From the bottom sheet, choose Leave workspace, and in the pop-up, tap Remove to confirm.
