Reading the title you might have thought that Facebook’s VPN app Ovano has done something wrong. It’s not the same thing this time but a few weeks ago, it was found that Facebook was paying money to users for installing an app called “Facebook Research” app on iOS devices which functioned as VPN with root access to all network traffic.
But as we know that Apple is too picky for its Apps on App Store and for the privacy of their consumers, it removed the App instantly. The app was based on the company’s VPN app which now a company has removed.
Facebook purchased this App in 2013 for a whopping 200 million USD dollars
In a statement to TechCrunch, a Facebook representative said, “Market research helps companies build better products for people. We are shifting our focus to reward-based market research which means we’re going to end the Onavo program.”
