Qualcomm says Snapdragon X PCs will be much cheaper next year. Right now the cheapest way to get a Windows PC with a Snapdragon X Plus chip is the $999 Microsoft Surface Laptop. But in 2025 they’ll start at just $700!

What Did Qualcomm Say?

Qualcomm’s CEO Cristiano Amon said this during the company’s Q3 2024 earnings call. “In 2025 our X series product roadmap will go down to $700 without sacrificing performance.”

Not Just Laptops

Amon didn’t say if these will be laptops. Qualcomm’s chips can also power small desktops like its eight-inch Dev Kit. He just said the price.

Working with Partners

Qualcomm is already working with other companies on the next gen PCs. They’re calling these new PCs “Copilot Plus”. More on these products at the IFA event in early September.

Qualcomm’s PC Market Goals

Amon expects Qualcomm to be a top AI PC supplier. He said “We expect PC to be the next biggest driver of diversification for the company” but noted it will be slow and steady. Some Snapdragon X PCs are already sold out.

Other Qualcomm News

Qualcomm also makes money by licensing its tech to other companies. They have long term agreements with two big Chinese companies, just like their deal with Apple which goes until 2027.

New Custom CPU

Amon also mentioned a new custom CPU that will be announced at the Snapdragon Summit in late October. This new CPU will be part of their next gen Snapdragon 8 phone chip and will be out either end of this year or early 2025.

As the price of Snapdragon X PCs drops, everyone wins. $700 next year, so more people can join the fun.
