Spotify makes way to India, starts Subscription at 119 INR

Spotify, the audio streaming platform which was founded on 7 October 2008 launched in India last day. It provides DRM-protected music and podcasts from record labels and media companies.

India is a large country and now every streaming media is trying to come to this growing market. First Netflix made its way, then Amazon Music, and now Spotify.

India already has various audio streaming apps such as Saavn, Amazon Music, Wynk, Jio Music, Apple Music. Thus coming up of Spotify gives the users more options and thus a tough competition between these companies in order to gain more user base.

Some highlights of Spotify India

  1. Spotify’s music recommendation engine available for Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and Telugu content.
  2. Users can play any song on demand via Spotify Free service.

According to Daniel EK, Founder of Spotify

“India has an incredibly rich music culture and to best serve this market, we’re launching a custom-built experience. Not only will Spotify bring Indian artists to the world, we’ll also bring the world’s music to fans across India. Spotify’s music family just got a whole lot bigger”

Spotify would allow users to listen to the music for free but they would be seeing ads which at the moment are spreading brand awareness.

What is the difference between Premium and Free Spotify?

Freemium users are also not able to store music offline when there is no network connectivity while ‘Premium’ users, who have to pay INR 119 per month after the end of a 30-day free trial, get everything.

Spotify would allow payment options for monthly as well as yearly subscriptions that can be paid through Paytm, credit or debit cards. INR 129 per month would be the cost for you if payment is made through e-wallets such as Paytm, Mobiquick etc.

With incoming of Spotify to India, now Indians would be able to use the service without using a VPN and can enjoy the Premium service at a cost of 119Rs per month. Do let us know which music streaming service you use and why.
