8 Artists Who Have Never Won A BET Award

Every year since 2001, BET has recognized standout Black talent in music, television, film, and sports at its annual BET Awards.

While some of the brightest rappers, singers, and entertainers can count their multiple trophies. However, below are 8 musicians who have surprisingly never won a BET award in a competitive category. 

Brandy shockingly does not have a BET award. She has released multiple albums, singles, collabs, and more since 2001 when the award show was established. After the release of 2003’s Full Moon and 2005’s Afrodisiac, Brandy was snubbed with zero nominations.

Tyrese Gibson, often recognized by only his first name, is a talented actor and musician who has not won a BET award for his work in either field. In 2002, he issued the album I Wanna Go There which featured the hit record “How You Gonna Act Like That” with neither earning him a BET award nomination.

Despite having seven nominations to her name, Lil’ Kim has never won a BET award. The Brooklyn Hip-Hop legend was first nominated at the inaugural event for Best Female Hip-Hop Artist and lost to Eve.In 2019, the veteran rapper was recognized by BET during the BET Hip Hop Awards with the lifetime achievement I Am Hip-Hop honor.

Ashanti has received a total of three BET Award nominations. Despite that fact, the Murder Inc singer does not carry any wins. Though she had massive chart success and a chokehold on radio, the singer-songwriter does not have a BET award.

Toni Braxton has multiple Soul Train Music Awards, NAACP Image Awards, Grammy awards, Billboard awards, and more but none of her recognitions are from BET. Since the inaugural award show, the R&B singer has issued a handful of chart-topping and more, making her eligible for multiple years.

The first rap group to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song does not have any BET awards. Three 6 Mafia has been nominated for the Best Group category at the annual event at three different times. In 2007, Gnarls Barkley took the trophy, and in 2009, Day26.

Neo-soul vocalist Maxwell does not yet have a BET Award to claim as his own. The “Fortunate” singer has been nominated three times for Best Male R&B.He lost to Musiq, Usher, and Trey Songz. The Brooklyn native was also up for the Centric Award in 2010 with the category being claimed by Monica.
