Serena Williams won her second-round singles match on Wednesday night, capping off what may be her final US Open.

Williams was more polished than she had in earlier games this season, when she was still working out the rust from a protracted break.

A loud crowd that was well-behaved applauded her at every turn.

In the third round, Williams will go up against Ajla Tomljanovic of Australia. Tomljanovic defeated Russian Evgeniya Rodina on Wednesday.

Williams was questioned about whether or not this tournament would be her last during her post-match news conference on Monday.

Williams, one of the best tennis players ever, has won the US Open six times, most recently in 2014, and has won 23 grand slam singles titles.
