Disney changes ‘fairy godmothers’ in US theme parks to gender-neutral ‘apprentices’
In an effort to be more inclusive, Disney has announced it will change
the title of the workers in its U.S.-based Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique locations.
“Fairy Godmothers in Training” will henceforth be known as “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices.”
Disney said, “cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character.”
The “Happiest Place on Earth” was recently in the news for another controversial reason this week: A fight between 2 families at Disney World resulted in a number of arrests.
In line for Mickey’s Concert a member left the line to grab her phone, which she had left in her electric vehicle, when she tried to rejoin the line, members of another family refused to let her in.
Video by a witness shows children crying, while people can be heard calling for security to help. Eventually, security and law enforcement were able to break up the two groups.
“Deputies conducted their investigation and subsequently arrested three people for misdemeanor battery,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement to NBC News.
