In downtown Changsha, Hunan's capital and a population of more than 10 million, a big plume of black smoke covered the skyline and large items fell from a 42-story structure.

Numerous stories of the 715-foot-tall China Telecom building "burned with extraordinary intensity," according to state television CCTV.

Social media video shows people leaving the state-owned firm building as it burns.

The city's fire department claimed 280 firefighters promptly extinguished the blaze.

Hunan's fire department stated the building's exterior caught fire.

Communications have not been disrupted, and no casualties have yet been found.
