King Charles III’s face featuring coin unveiled by UK Royal Mint

The UK Royal Mint has unveiled a coin with King Charles III's face on it.

Around the portrait is an inscription in Latin reading "• CHARLES III • D • G • REX • F • D • 5 POUNDS • 2022," which means "King Charles III, by the Grace of God, Defender of the Faith."

According to the Royal Mint, it was designed by British sculptor Martin Jennings and approved by the Royal monarch.

Sculptor Martin Jennings says, "It is a privilege to sculpt the first official effigy of His Majesty and to receive his personal approval for the design."

There will be a design on the reverse of the 50 pence coin similar to the 1953 Coronation Crown coin that was issued by the late Queen.

In the coming months, the Royal Mint will release the 50 pence coin into general circulation.
