Top Gun: Maverick passed Black Panther for fifth position, and it also, according to Paramount,

It is the only picture to have ever topped the US box office on both Memorial Day and Labor Day.

Top Gun: Maverick has risen to the top once more after 15 weeks in cinemas, with $7.9 million in ticket sales during the holiday weekend.

This contributed to its domestic total of $701 million.

Top Gun: Maverick, on the other hand, has a long way to go if it hopes to surpass Avatar's $760 million and become the fourth-highest earning film in North American history.

Unfortunately for Top Gun: Maverick, Avatar is returning to cinemas later this month to add to that number.

Top Gun: Maverick is presently ranked 12th in the world with $1.44 billion, closing in on Frozen II's $1.45 billion.
