Jeff Baena’s Tragic Passing

Jeff Baena, beloved writer, director, and husband of Aubrey Plaza, was found dead at his Los Angeles home on January 3. He was 47.

Law enforcement confirmed Baena's passing, with reports indicating that his assistant found him around 10:30 a.m. Baena was pronounced dead at the scene.

Cause of Death Confirmed

According to the Los Angeles Medical Examiner, Baena’s death was ruled a suicide by hanging, as reported by TMZ.

Baena’s career began after graduating from New York University’s film school. He moved to Los Angeles, where he made his mark in Hollywood with numerous writing and directing credits.

In 2004, Baena co-wrote I Heart Huckabees, starring Jude Law, Naomi Watts, and Jason Schwartzman, solidifying his reputation in the industry.

Baena directed Life After Beth, a zombie comedy starring Aubrey Plaza, in 2014. The film marked the beginning of their professional collaborations.

Baena and Plaza began dating in 2011 and kept their relationship private. In 2021, Plaza subtly revealed their marriage, calling him her "darling husband" in an Instagram post.
