Tesla is no longer the world's largest EV producer
BYD, a Chinese automaker backed by Warren Buffett, has eclipsed Tesla as the world's largest seller of electric vehicles.
According to statistics, in the first six months of 2022, BYD sold 638,157 electric or plug-in hybrid passenger vehicles.
The statistic reflects an almost 325 percent rise over the same time period previous year.
BYD sold 323,519 battery electric vehicles and 314,638 plug-in hybrids in the first two quarters of 2022.
Tesla, on the other hand, delivered 564,743 units in the first half of the year.
BYD's stock has climbed 36% since January, and the company has avoided manufacturing closures caused by the lockdown.
While the Tesla facility in Shanghai was halted earlier this year due to a COVID-19 outbreak.
