YouTube announced in June that Picture-in-Picture (PiP) functionality would be added to its iPhone and iPad apps.

People running iOS 15 should start seeing the functionality soon, albeit its availability is patchy.

Google allowed YouTube Premium customers to enable the function manually.

YouTube is now preparing to roll out Picture-in-Picture compatibility for devices running iOS 15 and iPadOS 15 or higher "over the coming several days."

For non-paying YouTube users, YouTube only mentions that picture-in-picture is available in the US.

If you use Android, you've probably had this function for years, and YouTube insists it's not going away anytime soon.

Simply select a video to view and then exit YouTube by swiping upwards from the bottom of the screen to use picture-in-picture.
