Galaxy Watch 6 Joins One UI 9 Watch Beta, but Only in Korea

Samsung has released the One UI 9 Watch beta for the Galaxy Watch 6 and Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, pulling a smartwatch that launched in August 2023 into the Wear OS 7 test programme. The build is live in South Korea only, so owners everywhere else have nothing to download today.

It is the fourth generation of Galaxy Watch hardware to receive the beta, and the oldest by two years. That matters for anyone who assumed the Watch 6 had reached the end of its major-update life.

The firmware, by model and size

All four Watch 6 variants get a build ending in ZZI1, the suffix Samsung has used across this beta cycle. The version differs only by model code:

• Galaxy Watch 6, 40mm — R93xXXU2ZZI1
• Galaxy Watch 6, 44mm — R94xXXU2ZZI1
• Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, 43mm — R95xXXU2ZZI1
• Galaxy Watch 6 Classic, 47mm — R96xXXU2ZZI1

Samsung has not published an English-language changelog for this build, and the detail circulating so far is thin: a refreshed interface and deeper Google Gemini integration, which is the same headline pitch One UI 9 Watch carried on newer models. Treat any feature list beyond that as unconfirmed for the Watch 6 specifically.

Four generations are now in the beta

Counting today's release, the One UI 9 Watch beta runs on:

• Galaxy Watch 6 and Watch 6 Classic — added today
• Galaxy Watch 7 and the first-generation Galaxy Watch Ultra — added earlier this month
• Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic — now on a second beta build

The Galaxy Watch 9 and Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 are missing from that list for a simple reason. Both shipped with One UI 9 Watch already installed when they arrived in July 2026, so there is no beta for their owners to join. We covered the Watch 7 and Watch Ultra additions when they landed.

Everyone outside Korea is still waiting

Every stage of this beta has opened in South Korea first. Samsung has not announced a date for other markets, and the company has not said whether the Watch 6 will be included when it does expand — the phone-side beta has already had its device list trimmed once. If you are enrolled in the programme in Germany, India, Poland, the UK or the US, your watch will not see this build yet.

There is also no confirmation that the Watch 6 will get a stable One UI 9 Watch release at all. A beta is a test, not a commitment. It is a strong signal, but it is not the same as Samsung putting the update on its rollout schedule.

Installing it, and the case for waiting

Enrolled testers in Korea get the build through a banner in the Samsung Members app on the paired phone, rather than through the watch's normal software update screen. Put the watch on its charger before starting and stay on Wi-Fi; recent builds in this cycle have run to well over a gigabyte.

Whether to install it is a different question, and on a 2023 watch it is a sharper one. The Watch 6 runs older silicon than anything else in this beta, so the open question is not which features arrive but how well they run — battery drain and sluggishness are the usual costs of a new OS on ageing hardware. Samsung's watch betas have not historically offered a user-facing way back to the previous version either.

If your watch is tracking sleep or workouts you actually rely on, sitting this one out costs you nothing. The stable release will come with the bugs already found.
