Apple Pulls Messages Suggestions and Auto Password Fixes From iOS 27's September 14 Release

Apple has removed two features from iOS 27 three days before the software ships, and both are ones it spent the summer demonstrating. Suggestions in Messages and the Passwords app's ability to change weak or compromised passwords on your behalf are now marked on Apple's own iOS 27 page as "coming in a future software update." iOS 27 still arrives for everyone on Monday, September 14.

Apple has not given a date for either feature, and it has not said why they slipped. The wording is the same short footnote in both places, with no timeline attached.

The two features that are not shipping

Suggestions in Messages reads the context of a conversation and offers to file the useful parts elsewhere. A friend proposing a time, an address, or a task turns into a one-tap entry in Reminders, Notes or Calendar without leaving the thread. It was one of the more concrete Apple Intelligence additions in the release, because it produced something you could act on rather than text you had to read.

The Passwords change was the bigger one. Apple's pitch was that the app would not just flag a weak or reused password but sign into the site and replace it for you. The detection half of that already exists and stays. The part that does the work for you is what has been pulled.

That second removal was visible before Apple confirmed it. Beta testers reported that the automatic password change option disappeared from iOS 27 beta 5, and the footnote on Apple's site is the company catching its marketing up to what the builds have shown for weeks.

It is not only the iPhone

The same footnote appears against iPadOS 27 and macOS 27. A Mac owner waiting for the Passwords app to rotate logins automatically is in the same position as an iPhone owner, and there is no platform where either feature ships on Monday.

What Monday's update does include

iOS 27 is a free update for iPhone 11 and later, plus iPhone SE (2nd generation) and newer. Nothing in the delay changes the release date or the device list.

The release is built around the rewritten Siri, and that is where the eligibility fine print bites hardest:

• Apple Intelligence features need iPhone 15 Pro or newer. Every model below that line installs iOS 27 and gets none of the AI additions, delayed or otherwise.
• Siri AI starts in English. Apple lists a wider language set for Apple Intelligence overall, including Chinese, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Spanish and others, but the new Siri is not in all of them at launch.
• The EU is excluded at first. Apple states that Siri AI will not initially be available in the European Union on iOS, iPadOS or watchOS. That is a regional gate, not a device one, so a new iPhone bought in Ireland or Germany is affected the same as an older one.

What to do on Monday

If you were updating specifically for automatic password changes, there is no reason to rush. The Passwords app in iOS 27 will still tell you which logins are weak, reused or caught in a known breach — open Passwords > Security to see the list — but you will be changing them yourself, one site at a time, as you do today.

If you want to check the current state of any feature before you install, Apple keeps the footnotes on its own iOS 27 feature page, and they are updated as things move. That page is the only place either delay is documented.

Anyone already on the release candidate build has the shipping software. The RC seeded on September 9 is what goes out publicly, so beta devices already show iOS 27 without these two features. Features held for a "future software update" have landed in point releases before, and have also slipped a full cycle. Apple has committed to neither here.
