After nine years of marriage, Amanda Seyfried and Thomas Sadoski have confirmed they are separating. Here is what they said, and how they got here.
In a joint statement to People on Tuesday, they said: "We have been separated for a while, and it's proven to be the right move for us and our family unit."
Seyfried is 40 and Sadoski is 50. They married in March 2017, and Tuesday's note is the first thing either has said publicly about the marriage ending.
The two met in 2015 while starring together in the off-Broadway play "The Way We Get By." They went on to co-star in the 2017 film "The Last Word."
They got engaged in March 2016, about a year after meeting. Sadoski's first marriage, to casting director Kimberly Hope, had ended months earlier.
They eloped on March 12, 2017. "We just took off into the country with an officiant and just the two of us," Sadoski told James Corden that month.
Daughter Nina was born on March 24, 2017, days after the wedding. Son Thomas followed in September 2020. The statement calls them a "family unit."
He earned a 2009 Tony nomination for "reasons to be pretty," then played Don Keefer on HBO's "The Newsroom" and Matt on CBS's "Life in Pieces."
She had two films out in 2025, "The Housemaid" and "The Testament of Ann Lee." "This is the most I've ever worked with two kids," she told Us Weekly.
The wording matters: they said separated, and gave no timeline. The note ended, "We've got each other forever - and it's GOOD."
Neither has said anything more since Tuesday, and no filing has been announced. For now that short joint note is the whole official story.
