Brad Pitt just premiered his next movie in Tennessee. Here is the story, the four-legged co-star, and the date it reaches theaters.
The film premiered Wednesday, Sept. 16, at the FirstBank Amphitheater near Franklin, Tennessee. Pitt walked the carpet (pictured at a 2014 premiere).
Paramount Pictures releases Heart of the Beast in US theaters on Friday, Sept. 25, 2026. Its first trailer debuted at CinemaCon in April.
Pitt plays James Belmont, a Special Forces officer. After a plane crash, he and his retired combat dog must survive the cold Alaska wilderness.
The dog, Odin, is played by a canine actor named Uber. The bond between man and dog is the heart of the film (pictured: a military working dog pup).
Pitt signed on in January 2025 and also produces through his company, Plan B Entertainment. Pictured: arriving at Venice in 2024.
David Ayer directs. He first worked with Pitt on the 2014 World War II film Fury, and more recently made The Beekeeper and A Working Man.
Oscar winner J.K. Simmons joined in February 2025, and Anna Lambe signed on a month later. Pitt is the lead as Belmont.
Cameron Alexander's script made the 2017 Black List of top unproduced screenplays. La La Land's Damien Chazelle and Olivia Hamilton produce.
Filming ran March 3 to May 15, 2025, around Queenstown, New Zealand, whose snowy peaks stand in for the Alaska backcountry.
Pitt and Ayer take the film to Spain's San Sebastián festival out of competition, Pitt's first visit since 2009, before the US debut Sept. 25.
