The reggaeton star and the Argentine model are going separate ways after nearly 10 years. Here is what she said, and the one thing they both promised.
Ferrer, 32, posted the news in her Instagram Stories on Wednesday: “José and I have decided to take separate paths.” José is Balvin’s real first name.
She called it a decision made from love, respect and doing what is best for their family, and said their priority is still their son, Río.
In January 2017, Ferrer was cast in Balvin’s “Sigo Extrañándote” video, playing his wife and the mother of a little girl. They were friends first.
She was crowned Miss Argentina 2014 and made the Top 10 at Miss Universe. She and Balvin made their couple debut at New York Fashion Week in 2018.
Their son Río was born June 27, 2021. Us Weekly reports the name honors Balvin’s love for Rio de Janeiro. He turned 5 this summer.
The pair had not shared a joint post since July 28, and fans noticed Ferrer posting to a breakup-themed song, according to Hola! USA.
On Sept. 10, before Balvin played Rock in Rio, Ferrer told Brazil’s gshow the key to a couple is respect, communication and a lot of companionship.
Ferrer said she was staying in New York City while he performed in Rio, and that both plan their busy careers around time with Río.
Balvin, 41, is the Colombian singer behind “Mi Gente.” US fans saw him join Shakira and Jennifer Lopez at the Super Bowl LIV halftime show in 2020.
Ferrer asked for privacy and said they are going through it calmly. Neither has named a reason. Their shared focus: raising Río together.
