The Girls creator and husband Luis Felber have welcomed their first child. Here's what she shared, and why this baby took years to arrive.
Dunham, 40, announced the news in a Vogue essay published Sept. 16, with a photo of her holding the baby next to Felber and their dog.
The couple had a daughter, born via a surrogate. Dunham wrote that she arrived 13 days late, "in the face of a solar eclipse and a meteor shower."
Dunham didn't give an exact birth date. Page Six reports the family is in the US for now and will soon head home to North London.
Felber is a British musician who records as Attawalpa. The pair got engaged four months after they started dating.
They married in September 2021 at a small London ceremony, seven months into the romance. Taylor Swift stood with Dunham as a bridesmaid.
The couple co-created Netflix's Too Much, loosely inspired by how the two met. Felber also made music for the show.
Severe endometriosis led Dunham to have a hysterectomy at 31. In a 2020 Harper's essay she wrote about IVF attempts that didn't work.
Dunham created and starred in HBO's Girls, produced with Judd Apatow, seen here with its 2013 Peabody Award. It ran six seasons, 2012 to 2017.
In 2025 she told The Times they were "expanding our family in new ways." Her memoir Famesick, on her health and fame, followed in April 2026.
Dunham once said being a mom was a big part of who she hoped to be. Years after her surgery, that hope is now a baby girl.
