iPhone 18 Pro Max 256GB Now Ships October 6–13 as Pre-Order Delivery Dates Slip
Anyone ordering a 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max today is now looking at October 6–13 for delivery, not the September 18 launch. Pre-orders opened at 5 a.m. PT on Saturday, September 12, and by mid-morning Apple's US online store had pushed the cheapest Pro Max configurations, and every Burgundy one, into October.
The picture is very uneven, though. Most iPhone 18 Pro models, and the high-capacity Pro Max, were still quoting launch-day delivery hours after orders opened. Which phone you want decides whether you wait three weeks or six days.

iPhone 18 Pro Max delivery dates by configuration
These are the US Apple Store estimates as of about 10:30 a.m. PT on September 12, the most recent published check:
- 256GB in Black, Silver or Glacier: October 6–13
- 256GB and 512GB in Burgundy: October 6–13
- 512GB in Black or Silver: September 24–29
- 1TB and 2TB: no delays were reported in the first hours of pre-orders
The slide was fast. The 256GB Burgundy Pro Max went from September 18 to a September 29–October 6 window within half an hour, then to October 6–13 by the one-hour mark. Black 256GB first dropped to September 24 before joining the October group, and 512GB Silver still showed launch day early on before slipping to late September. If you see a slightly better date than the ones above, you probably checked earlier; if you see a worse one, inventory has kept tightening since.
The smaller iPhone 18 Pro is mostly fine
The standard iPhone 18 Pro has held up far better. At the mid-morning check, the iPhone 18 Pro in Black, Silver and Glacier still offered September 18 delivery at every storage tier from 256GB to 2TB. Only Burgundy in 256GB and 512GB had moved, to September 24–29.
So Burgundy is the constrained finish across both sizes, and base storage is the constrained tier on the Max. That is a practical steer: stepping up to 1TB on the Pro Max, or choosing a different colour, is currently the difference between launch week and mid-October.
Outside the US
Estimates vary by country because each Apple Store draws on regional stock. In the UK, early checks showed every Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro except the 2TB model already moved to September 24. We have not seen reliable estimates for other markets yet, so check your own country's Apple Store rather than assuming US dates apply.
How to get one sooner
- Try in-store pickup. Pickup at an Apple Store may still be available on September 18 for some models, even where home delivery has slipped. Check a few nearby stores in the Apple Store app.
- Change the variable that is sold out. Swap Burgundy for Black, Silver or Glacier, or move the Pro Max from 256GB to 1TB.
- Watch carriers and retailers. Their allocations are separate from Apple's online stock, so a date that has slipped at Apple can still be earlier elsewhere.
- Order anyway. Your place is locked when you check out, and later orders only queue behind yours.
A slow start by Apple's standards
At least one early assessment called the first hours quiet, with far fewer models slipping than at a typical iPhone launch. Suggested reasons include the move to a Saturday pre-order, buyers waiting for the foldable iPhone Duo, and higher prices driven by memory costs. None of that is confirmed by Apple, which does not publish pre-order numbers.
For start times, trade-in credit and financing details, see our iPhone 18 Pro pre-order guide. If battery life is steering you toward the bigger phone, the EU energy labels put the Pro Max at 5,391 mAh against 4,056 mAh for the Pro.
Frequently Asked Questions
When will the iPhone 18 Pro Max ship if I order now?
In the US, the 256GB iPhone 18 Pro Max in Black, Silver or Glacier, and every 256GB or 512GB Burgundy model, showed October 6–13 delivery by mid-morning on September 12. The 512GB Black and Silver models showed September 24–29. The 1TB and 2TB versions had no reported delays in the first hours.
Is the iPhone 18 Pro delayed too?
Mostly not. The standard iPhone 18 Pro in Black, Silver and Glacier was still quoting September 18 delivery at every storage size on the morning of September 12. Only the 256GB and 512GB Burgundy versions had slipped, to September 24–29.
Which iPhone 18 Pro colour is hardest to get?
Burgundy. It was the first finish to slip on both the iPhone 18 Pro and the Pro Max, and on the Pro Max it moved to October 6–13 within about an hour of pre-orders opening. In the UK, every Burgundy iPhone 18 Pro except the 2TB model moved to September 24.
Can I still get an iPhone 18 Pro on launch day?
Possibly. Apple Store pickup on September 18 may still be offered for some models even when home delivery has slipped, so check nearby stores in the Apple Store app. Choosing a less constrained colour or a larger storage tier, or ordering through a carrier, can also get you an earlier date.
Why are some iPhone 18 Pro delivery dates different from what I see?
Apple's estimates change through the day as stock sells, and they differ by country, model, colour and storage. An earlier check can show a better date than a later one. Your delivery window is fixed when you complete checkout, so the date shown at that moment is the one that applies to your order.
