What is new in the NBA 2K27 City

The headline structural change is a co-ed City. Male and female MyPlayers are built on the same framework, so appearance does not decide your ratings or your build. 2K has said the female MyPlayer is a City-only character, which means it does not carry across into the rest of MyCareer.

The Rec now rotates through different venues rather than sticking to one arena. Five are confirmed: a high school gym, an outdoor court, a private gym, a crowded arena, and a season-themed venue. Those environments also show up in The Theater, Ante-Up and the Seasonal Parks.

MyCareer co-op and the five eras

MyCareer supports co-op multiplayer this year. A second player drops in as a character named Trace Miller, your Running Mate, and picks from nine teammate build templates. Both players earn VC and Season XP separately, so the co-op partner is not just along for the ride.

Five historical eras are selectable: Magic vs. Bird, Jordan, Kobe, LeBron and Steph Curry. Each one starts your career in that period of the league rather than the present day.

Badges, MyTeam and MyNBA

Badges: 53 in total, 19 of them new. Badge Tokens govern what you can equip, and a Synergy system pairs Fuse and Reaction Badges for a +1 or +2 boost.
Gameplay: Step-Through Up-and-Unders are in, and Hands-Up Shot Contests have been reworked. Animation comes from ProPlay with machine learning applied on top.
MyTeam: Card exchanges are now unlimited, excluding Free Agent cards, and collection rewards no longer lock cards away permanently.
MyNBA: A new Legacy mode is single-player and player-locked, built around running a franchise across a 100-year span.

The Standard Edition is the only one sold on Nintendo Switch 2. Deluxe and Ultra are digital and limited to PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Every edition carries a 10,000 VC pre-order bonus; on top of that, Deluxe includes 100,000 VC and Ultra includes 135,000 VC.
