Ubisoft's disc-based Xbox games started granting digital licences overnight, ending two days of speculation that the publisher had sat out Microsoft's Disc to Digital programme entirely. Testers in the Xbox Insider Alpha and Alpha Skip-Ahead rings reported converting Far Cry Primal, Far Cry 4, Trials Fusion, Assassin's Creed Syndicate and Assassin's Creed: The Ezio Collection within hours of each other.
What changed with Xbox Disc to Digital
Nothing about the mechanism changed. What changed is the catalogue behind it. When the feature went live for Insiders on 31 August, players working through their shelves found Ubisoft discs returning nothing at the claim prompt, alongside titles from SEGA, Square Enix and Bandai Namco. That turned into a preservation row, given Ubisoft's history with delisted online games.
Ubisoft's response in published reports was to point questions at Microsoft rather than confirm a decision either way. Its games began working a few hours later. Neither company has issued a statement framing that as a formal opt-in, and Microsoft has never published a list of participating publishers, so the practical evidence is what testers can claim on their own consoles.

Who can try it right now
This is still an Xbox Insider test, not a public feature. The claim itself has to happen on an Xbox Series X or an Xbox One model with a disc drive; the Xbox Series S and digital-only Xbox One consoles cannot read a disc, so they cannot start a conversion, though a game claimed elsewhere plays on them afterwards. Original Xbox and Xbox 360 discs are outside the programme.
Microsoft has not given a public release date. The Insider programme has been picking up steady quality-of-life work this year, including the Insider update that added local save deletion and a badge viewer, and Disc to Digital reached every ring within a week of launching, which is usually a sign a wider rollout is close.
The publishers still missing
SEGA, Square Enix and Bandai Namco discs were still not converting at the time of writing. None of the three has said publicly that it is refusing to take part, and Ubisoft's overnight switch is a reasonable argument against reading absence as refusal — the more likely explanation is contract review at different speeds. Treat any claim that a specific publisher has opted out as unconfirmed until that publisher says so.
For Ubisoft owners the timing is convenient. The publisher has been reissuing its back catalogue rather than retiring it, and the Black Flag Resynced update 1.0.7 is the most recent example.
