What "dark fantasy" means on a phone search

Wikipedia describes dark fantasy as fantasy with horror in it. On a phone, the search also pulls in three other things. We split them so you do not install the wrong one.

• A finished grim game. Blasphemous, Dead Cells, Don't Starve, Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
• A live dark world. Diablo Immortal, Undecember, Torchlight: Infinite, Limbus Company. The shop is part of the game.
• A survivors run. Vampire Survivors and Halls of Torment. You last as long as you can. The story is thin on purpose.
• A bright fantasy game in a dark coat. Eternium is a huge, high-rated mage game. It is on this page so you can see the score, and so you know it is not the same mood as Blasphemous.

Famous, and under 4 stars

• DROVA - Forsaken Kin: 3.63 from 591 ratings · Mature 17+ · Updated October 18, 2026. New, and not loved yet. Do not treat a 2026 trailer as a score.

Name traps and games we could not find

• Shadow of Death: Offline Games: 4.73 from 566,255 ratings · 50M+ downloads · ads and purchases · Updated August 13, 2026. The score is real. A Play search also surfaces stickman fighting apps with Shadow of Death in the name. Open the screenshots. A high score here is not Blasphemous.
• Darkest Dungeon: we did not find an official Red Hook app. The top Play result we opened was Darkest Companion, a different developer, last updated in 2019. Do not install a companion and think you bought the game.
• Cult of the Lamb: it did not appear in the top Play results. Cultist Simulator did. They are different games.

What the other dark-fantasy lists put first

A 2026 list that ranks RAID: Shadow Legends first is answering a different question: "which free dark game has the most characters?" A list that still puts Pascal's Wager first is ignoring a 3.08 score from 17,036 ratings. Both games are real. Neither is the buy we would make first.

• RAID: Shadow Legends. Free, Teen, no ads label, purchases, 4.64 stars from 2,270,997 ratings, 50M+ downloads, updated October 19, 2026. It is the biggest dark-looking collection game on the phone. You collect heroes and the shop is the business. It is not Blasphemous. Listing.
• Slay the Spire. $9.99, Everyone 10+, no ads label, no purchase label, 4.35 stars from 30,127 ratings, updated July 21, 2026. A dark tower you climb with cards. One of the few pay-once games other lists and this page agree on. Listing.
• Chaos Zero Nightmare. Free, Teen, no ads label, purchases, 4.54 stars from 154,525 ratings, updated October 21, 2026. A 2026 dark deck-builder. Older roundups do not have it. The shop is still there. Listing.
• AnimA ARPG. Free, Teen, ads and purchases, 4.30 stars from 122,268 ratings, 5M+ downloads, updated December 8, 2025. The offline-feeling hack-and-slash people mean when they do not want Diablo Immortal's lobby. The ads are the cost.
• Oniro. Free, Teen, ads and purchases, 3.76 stars from 13,585 ratings, updated October 15, 2026. Same studio as AnimA. The new one. The score is under 4, so we will not copy a review that calls it the offline pick of the year.
• Elderand. $6.99, Mature 17+, no ads or purchase label, 3.48 stars from 387 ratings. Too few ratings, and under 4.

How to pick one in 10 minutes

1. If you want the shop to end, buy Blasphemous or Don't Starve. Both show no ads label and no purchase label.
2. If you want friends in the same hell, install Diablo Immortal and read the purchase label before you tap a chest.
3. If you want ten-minute runs, use Halls of Torment Premium or Vampire Survivors. Premium if you hate ads. Survivors if you will tolerate them.
4. If the score is under 4 and the rating count is over 10,000, believe the score until a new update moves it. Pascal's Wager and Solo Leveling: Arise are in that bucket today.
5. Set a purchase password on every free game in the "shop inside" list. Google's steps.

How we checked

• Aditya Singh. US Google Play pages, October 27, 2026. Price, stars, rating count, downloads, ads label, purchase label, age, and last update.
• We did not clear the dungeons. "Hard" and "fair" are not on the store page, so we do not pretend we measured them today.
• A missing ads label is the developer's flag. It can be wrong. It is still the best public signal on the page.

Your next step

Install Blasphemous if $7.99 is fine and you want the grim game with the quietest store page. Install Diablo Immortal if you want other people in the world and you can ignore a shop. Leave Pascal's Wager until you have read this month's reviews.
