DLSS Unlocked v0.3.0 Brings DLSS 5 and 4X Frame Gen to RTX 20, 30 and 40
A community installer called DLSS Unlocked reached version 0.3.0 on September 8, bundling DLSS 5 neural rendering and multi-frame generation into a single package for GeForce RTX 20, RTX 30 and RTX 40 graphics cards. Nvidia has only committed to bringing DLSS 5 to RTX 40 officially, and said nothing about the two generations below it.
The release matters because it collapses a tangle of separate mods into one wizard. Until now, getting neural rendering and extra interpolated frames onto an older card meant hand-installing three or four community projects and hoping the versions lined up.

What v0.3.0 puts in the box
The package is assembled by a developer working under the handle ShyVortex, and it is a wrapper rather than new rendering code. Version 0.3.0 ships OptiScaler_DLSSNR v0.2.0-patch1 for neural rendering, the DLSS Enabler headless module for frame generation, Nukem9's DLSSG-to-FSR3 bridge, and NVIDIA Streamline 2.14 — up from Streamline 2.13 in the v0.2.0 builds released a day earlier.
One change is easy to miss in the version notes. The v0.2.0 packages listed only the neural-rendering forwarder; v0.3.0 lists a patched neural-rendering runtime bundled alongside it. That is reflected in the file size: the installer grew from roughly 223 MB to about 351 MB, and the manual archive from about 321 MB to 452 MB.
Your card decides how the frames are made
This is the part worth understanding before you install anything, because the label and the mechanism are not the same thing.
- RTX 40 (Ada): the first generated frame comes from Nvidia's own DLSS-G frame generation. Every additional frame after that is produced by AMD's FidelityFX FSR 3.1.
- RTX 30 and RTX 20 (Ampere and Turing): every generated frame comes from FSR 3.1. None of Nvidia's frame-generation hardware path is used.
So this is not Nvidia's RTX 50 multi-frame generation running on old silicon. It is an AMD interpolation path wearing an Nvidia-shaped interface, and image quality on fast motion behaves accordingly.
There is also a numbers discrepancy worth flagging. Some coverage of the release describes frame rates going up to 6X. The project's own documentation lists multi-frame generation at 2X, 3X and 4X only. Treat 4X as the ceiling the developer actually claims.
The requirements people keep missing
Three conditions have to be true, and the third catches most people out:
- The game must use DirectX 12.
- The game must already support DLSS upscaling and DLSS frame generation natively. This is a patcher, not a universal injector.
- For the multi-frame options to appear in the game's own graphics settings, the game must natively support multi-frame generation too.
That last line means a DLSS 3 title will get neural rendering and 2X frame generation, but the 3X and 4X toggles will not show up unless the game was already built for them.
Installing it, and where it breaks
Windows users run the setup executable and point it at the folder holding the game's main .exe. Linux and Proton users are directed to the standalone archive instead, extracting it into the same folder and launching with the WINEDLLOVERRIDES="dxgi=n,b" %command% option. If you already run ReShade, the proxy file has to be renamed from dxgi.dll to version.dll or the two will fight.
Two known faults are documented. Some DirectX 12 games crash under Proton when the in-game overlay opens; setting OverlayMenu=false in OptiScaler.ini avoids it. Capcom's RE Engine titles need REFramework installed alongside the mod to get past the engine's integrity checks, and on RTX 20 and RTX 30 cards the developer recommends sticking to plain 2X frame generation there rather than 3X or 4X.
The usual warning applies and is not a formality: injected DLL mods of this kind are routinely flagged by anti-cheat systems, so keep them away from anything you play online.
Why this exists at all
Nvidia said earlier this month that DLSS 5 will reach RTX 40 cards, but only after RTX 50 performance tuning finishes, with no date attached and RTX 30 and RTX 20 explicitly not in the queue. With used and relaunched RTX 30 cards climbing steeply in price, a lot of owners are keeping hardware they expected to replace. The mod scene is filling that gap, and this release automates its own upkeep — the project checks upstream every three hours and rebuilds when the components it depends on change.
