East of Eden Hits Netflix on October 1, All Seven Episodes at Once

Netflix has set East of Eden for Thursday, 1 October 2026, and all seven episodes of the Florence Pugh limited series land the same day. There is no weekly rollout here — the full Steinbeck adaptation drops at once, and it is a Netflix exclusive with no theatrical window.

The date arrived alongside the first batch of images from the production, which gave viewers their first proper look at Pugh as Cathy Ames, the character at the centre of the show's reworked structure. Pugh executive produces as well as stars.

When does East of Eden hit Netflix?

1 October 2026, globally, with all seven episodes available immediately. Netflix titles typically unlock at midnight Pacific time, which is 3am ET, 8am BST and 12:30pm IST on the same date — so most of the world outside the US Pacific timezone gets it during the day on 1 October.

It is a limited series, not a returning drama. Seven episodes is the whole story, which puts it in the same binge-in-a-weekend bracket as Netflix's other prestige one-and-done runs rather than something that will stretch across a subscription cycle.

Zoe Kazan co-showruns, writes and executive produces alongside Jeb Stuart. Garth Davis directed the first four episodes and Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre the final three. FIFTH SEASON and Anonymous Content are the co-studios. The shoot took place in New Zealand rather than the Salinas Valley the novel is set in.

What is different about this adaptation?

The 1955 film version covered only the last third of John Steinbeck's 1952 novel. This one runs the full multigenerational Trask family story and, per Netflix's own synopsis, focuses fresh attention on Cathy Ames — a character the book treats as close to irredeemable. Kazan has said publicly that the goal was to find Cathy's humanity without excusing what she does.

There is a family footnote to it too: Kazan's grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the James Dean film. The 2026 version is not a remake of that picture.

Do you need anything beyond a standard Netflix plan?

No. It is included with every Netflix tier, ad-supported plans included, at no extra charge. That matters more than it used to — streaming prices have been moving all year, and a rival service raised its own plan prices again this month. Netflix's own pricing is unchanged by this announcement.

If you are stacking autumn viewing, the same window is busy: The Diplomat returns on 15 October with all eight episodes at once, and the Victorious spin-off Hollywood Arts arrives the same day. Elsewhere, Slow Horses season 6 starts 16 September on a weekly schedule, and Ahsoka season 2 has been pushed to January 2027.

Is a second season possible?

Not as things stand. Netflix has labelled this a limited series and the seven episodes cover the novel. Nothing announced suggests a continuation, and the source material does not leave one obvious.
