When do the GRID Legends servers shut down?

EA is switching off GRID Legends online services on 11 September 2026. From that date, cross-platform play, online multiplayer, Quick Race, Dynamic Events and the leaderboards stop working on console. The date applies to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.

Is GRID Legends still playable after the servers shut down?

Yes, on console the single-player game keeps working. The career mode, the Driven to Glory live-action story mode and offline single events all run without a connection, and existing save files are stored locally so your progress is not lost.

Does the GRID Legends shutdown affect the PC version?

No. The PC version is not covered by the shutdown notice, so its online features continue past 11 September. After that date, PC is the only platform where GRID Legends multiplayer still works.

What about GRID Legends on Nintendo Switch 2?

Nothing changes for Switch 2 owners. GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition launched on Switch 2 on 29 January 2026 at $39.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 without multiplayer, and its only online feature is track-time leaderboards. There is no online mode there for the shutdown to remove.

Is GRID Legends still on PlayStation Plus?

No. GRID Legends was a PS Plus monthly game in the past, but it is no longer in the catalogue. If you claimed it back then it stays in your library, but new players need to buy it rather than pull it from a subscription.

What stops working when the GRID Legends servers shut down

Anything that needs a connection to EA goes with the servers. The shutdown notice covers cross-platform play, every online multiplayer mode, Quick Race, Dynamic Events and the leaderboards. Race Creator events you have shared, online friend lobbies and the season-based online progression that hangs off them stop resolving too.

There is no replacement service and no offline stand-in for those modes. This is the same pattern EA followed when it ended online services for NHL 22 and NHL 23 at the end of August, and the same one Supertrick took a different route through when it shipped a paid offline edition of Let It Die rather than let the game vanish with its servers.

Which platforms are affected, and which are not

Four console SKUs are in scope: PS4, PS5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. If you play GRID Legends on any of those, 11 September is the cutoff.

PC is not in the shutdown notice. The Windows version's online features continue past the date, which makes it the only place the game's multiplayer survives at all. That distinction has been reported inconsistently since the announcement, so it is worth being precise about: consoles lose online, PC does not.

The Nintendo Switch 2 release is a separate case again. GRID Legends: Deluxe Edition arrived on Switch 2 on 29 January 2026 at $39.99 / £24.99 / €29.99 with the base game and all previously released DLC, but it never shipped with multiplayer in the first place. Its only online component is track-time leaderboards, so there is no multiplayer there to switch off. If you bought the Switch 2 version, nothing about your copy changes next week.

What still works after 11 September

The single-player half of GRID Legends is untouched on console. That includes the full career, the Driven to Glory story mode shot with live-action virtual production, and the standard single-event and offline race modes. Split-screen and local play do not route through EA's servers either.

Save files stay where they are. Progress you have already earned in career mode is stored locally and does not depend on the online services, so an offline console will still load your garage and your completed seasons.

The end of the GRID series online

GRID Legends launched in February 2022 from Codemasters, which EA had bought a year earlier. Four and a half years of online support is short for a racing game, and it closes out the series: EA took GRID 2, GRID Autosport and the 2019 GRID offline at the end of 2025, so after 11 September no GRID game has working multiplayer on a PlayStation or Xbox console.

GRID Legends was also a PlayStation Plus monthly game at one point, which is how a lot of people ended up owning it without buying it. It is no longer in the PS Plus catalogue — the current PS Plus monthly line-up is a different set entirely — so anyone hoping to reinstall it from the subscription this week will need to buy it instead.
