Huawei Mate XT 2 Tri-Fold Launches at 19,999 Yuan, On Sale in China September 12
Huawei launched the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China on Monday, pricing its second-generation tri-fold from 19,999 yuan for 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Pre-orders opened the same day and the first sale runs on September 12 — in China only, with no international launch date attached to the announcement.
What 19,999 yuan buys, and what the higher tiers cost
Every configuration ships with 16GB of RAM. Storage is what separates them:

- 512GB — 21,999 yuan
- 1TB — 23,999 yuan
Above that the reporting diverges. Some accounts of the launch describe a 1TB "privacy" variant at 24,999 yuan; others list a 2TB collector's configuration bundled with a stylus at 29,999 yuan. Both may exist as separate limited runs, but only the three tiers above are consistently reported, so treat the top end as unsettled until Huawei's store listings go live for the September 12 sale. The fold turns inward
The original Mate XT folded outward, leaving a display panel exposed on the back when closed. The Mate XT 2 reverses that. The 10.2-inch LTPO OLED panel now folds inward across three sections, protected when shut, with a separate 6.5-inch cover screen for one-handed use. Resolution on the large panel is 2232 x 3184 with a 1-120Hz adaptive refresh rate.
Closed, the phone measures 12.3mm thick. Opened, it tapers to between 3.5mm and 4mm depending on which panel you measure. It weighs 299 grams — heavy for a phone, light for something with this much glass in it.
Huawei is also claiming IP58 and IP59 ratings, covering dust and high-pressure water jets. Foldables have historically struggled to reach that far, and a hinge assembly with two folds is a harder sealing problem than the single-hinge designs behind the Galaxy Z Fold 8.
Kirin 9050 Pro and HarmonyOS 7
Inside is the Kirin 9050 Pro, which Huawei says delivers 46 percent more performance than the Kirin 9030 Pro it replaces, using an architecture the company calls LogicFolding. The Mate XT 2 is also the first phone to ship with HarmonyOS 7, the version that adds reworked multitasking and on-device AI in the Celia assistant. This is not an Android phone and does not run Google services.
The camera array is a 50MP main sensor on a 1/1.28-inch chip with optical stabilisation, a 40MP ultrawide, a 50MP periscope at 3.5x optical zoom, and a multi-spectral sensor for colour accuracy. An 8MP camera serves both the inner and cover displays.
Power comes from a 5,600mAh silicon-anode cell with 66W wired charging, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless for topping up earbuds or a watch.
Who can actually buy one
Only buyers in mainland China, for now. Huawei's recent phone launches have followed a pattern of a Chinese debut months ahead of any wider release, and the company gave no timeline for other markets. Regions where Huawei still sells hardware — parts of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Southeast Asia — have historically waited for a separate global event, as happened with the Pura X View.
The wider point is a price one. At 19,999 yuan the Mate XT 2 starts roughly where the first Mate XT did, which means a second generation of tri-fold hardware has arrived without the usual premium for novelty wearing off. It is still a phone that costs as much as several flagships stacked together.
