What happens in It: Welcome to Derry season 2?

Season one was set in 1962 and built to the burning of the Black Spot. Season two jumps back to 1935, in the middle of the Great Depression, and takes on the Bradley Gang killings — one of the historical interludes King scatters through the novel between the main timelines.

Andy and Barbara Muschietti stay on as executive producers. Andy Muschietti has described a three-season plan mapped to three of those interludes, which would leave the 1908 Easter egg hunt explosion for a third season. That third season has not been ordered.

Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise. Kane shared showrunning duties with Jason Fuchs on season one and now runs it alone.

What this means if you subscribe month to month

A 2027 target means there is no reason to hold an HBO Max subscription for this show alone. Season one is finished and bingeable whenever you decide to pick it up, and dropping the service in between is a normal way to use it — the same calculation applies to HBO Max's weekly Lanterns rollout, which is running now, and to the way Netflix drops full seasons at once, as it will with The Diplomat season 4 in October.
