Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter File Size: 33.2GB on Switch 2, 19.5GB on Switch

Nintendo's own store listings now carry a download size for Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter, and the two Switch versions are not close: the Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a 33.2GB install, while the original Switch build is 19.5GB. Nihon Falcom's remake launches worldwide on 17 September 2026 for PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch and PC via Steam, so anyone planning to buy digitally on a 256GB Switch 2 should start clearing space now.

That is a 13.7GB gap between the two Nintendo builds for the same game. GungHo Online Entertainment America handles the western release, and its Switch 2 Edition page is explicit that the extra data buys presentation, not content.

What the Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter file size is on each platform

Here is what the storefronts currently list, with the US prices attached to each SKU:

• Nintendo Switch — 19.5GB download, $59.99
• Switch 2 Edition Upgrade Pack — $4.99 if you already own the Switch version

The upgrade route is the cheap one. Buy the $59.99 Switch release, add the $4.99 pack, and you land at $64.99 anyway — the same as buying the Switch 2 Edition outright. What matters more is the storage: taking the upgrade means pulling down the larger 33.2GB build, not patching the 19.5GB one in place.

What the extra 13.7GB actually buys on Switch 2

Nintendo's listing spells out three changes and one non-change. The Switch 2 Edition runs at higher resolutions in both handheld and TV mode, uses improved textures, and targets improved frame rates in both modes. The page then states plainly that it "does not include any changes to game content."

So the bulk of that 13.7GB is texture data. No extra chapters, no added scenes, no exclusive characters — a sharper version of the same 2006 sequel. If you are weighing the upgrade, it is a visual decision, and one you can test before paying: the free demo has been on PS5, Switch and Steam since 19 August, and progress made in it carries into the full release. Which platforms get it, and when

Digitally, all four platforms unlock on 17 September: PlayStation 5, Switch 2, Switch and Steam. There is no Xbox version of 2nd Chapter, just as there was none for the demo.

Physical is where it splits. PM Studios has confirmed that the Switch and Switch 2 boxed editions slip to 29 September in Europe and Australia only. PS5 physical copies and every digital version anywhere are unaffected and still land on the 17th. No reason was given for the delay, and buyers who pre-ordered a Nintendo physical copy in those regions are the only ones waiting the extra 12 days.

PC requirements if you are going the Steam route

Steam does not publish a disk-space figure for the game yet, but it does list a minimum spec, and it is modest. The floor is Windows 10 or 11 on a 64-bit setup, an AMD Ryzen 5 1600, 8GB of RAM, an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and DirectX 11. Falcom pegs that configuration at 1080p and 60fps on the Performance graphics profile, which is a low bar for a 2026 JRPG and good news for handheld PCs.

How it compares to other Switch 2 downloads

33.2GB is mid-sized by current Switch 2 standards. It is roughly half of the 61.5GB that Oblivion Remastered asks for on Switch 2, and a quarter of Final Fantasy 7 Revelation's 130GB Switch 2 install. Against the console's 256GB of internal storage, it is a game you can keep installed without much thought.

Falcom has been busy on the older entry too — the first game picked up a translation overhaul in Trails in the Sky Legacy's version 1.07 patch, which renamed a chunk of its terminology.
