Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 Costs 62,980 Yen in Japan, and It Does Not Include a Game

Nintendo has priced the Nintendo Switch 2 – The Legend of Zelda – 40th Anniversary Edition at 62,980 yen including tax, with a release date of 29 October 2026. The announcement came during the Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct, and the console listed today is the Japanese-Language System, sold in Japan only. Nintendo has not announced a price, a release date or a pre-order window for the United States, the United Kingdom or Europe.

What the Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 costs and when it ships

One number matters more than the design here: 62,980 yen. Nintendo's standard Japanese-Language System carries an MSRP of 49,980 yen, so the anniversary hardware asks 13,000 yen more for the same silicon in different clothes. The multi-language Japanese model, the one sold through the My Nintendo Store for buyers who want a system language other than Japanese, sits at 69,980 yen.

Two accessories launch on the same day with matching designs. The Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller and display stand set is 12,980 yen including tax. The carrying case and screen protector bundle is 3,980 yen including tax. Both are separate purchases; neither is folded into the console price.

What is actually in the box, and what is not

Nintendo's own listing is blunt about the omission: this product does not come with a game. Buyers hoping the anniversary console would arrive with the Ocarina of Time remake whose price surfaced on Nintendo's Australian store pre-installed or bundled on a card will be disappointed. The contents are the standard Switch 2 kit with cosmetic changes:

• Joy-Con 2 wrist straps with the anniversary design

Triforce motifs run across the back of the system, the dock and the Joy-Con 2 controllers. The internals are unchanged from a retail Switch 2, so there is no performance reason to buy one.

Which regions get it, and when Western pricing might land

The confirmed release is Japan. A Japanese-Language System only supports Japanese as the system language, and only Nintendo Accounts with the region set to Japan can be linked to it, which makes an import awkward for anyone outside the country. That restriction is the single most important thing to understand before hunting a listing on a reseller.

Nintendo has not said whether an equivalent console reaches North America or Europe, nor at what price. Any figure circulating as a currency conversion of 62,980 yen is not a Nintendo price. Regional pricing has moved repeatedly this year, as the site covered when the Switch 2 price rose in the UK to £419.99, so a straight conversion is a poor guide.

Where this sits in Nintendo's October and the wider Zelda push

The 29 October date puts the console a month before the holiday rush and alongside the anniversary software Nintendo showed in the same broadcast. If you already own a Switch 2, the practical question is whether the Pro Controller and display stand at 12,980 yen is the cheaper way into the anniversary hardware. It is, by a wide margin, and it is the only piece of the three that works identically no matter which region your console came from. Nintendo's own store in Japan is also carrying a bundle pairing the Pro Controller with the display stand.

One caution on buying: the console is a limited commemorative run, and Nintendo has had a rough few weeks on the account-security side, including the wave of accidental Switch 2 bans behind error 2124-4508. Anyone importing a Japanese system and linking a foreign account is working outside how Nintendo intends the hardware to be used. Shoppers watching for discounts on games in the meantime can check the eShop Blockbuster Sale before it ends on 9 September.

Pre-orders in Japan have not opened as of publication. Nintendo typically gives itself several weeks of lead time, which points to a window before the end of September, though the company has confirmed nothing.
