AFK Journey Digimon Crossover Is Live With Taichi, Yamato and Two Free Heroes From Login

Aditya Singh

AFK Journey's Digimon Adventure crossover went live on 18 August at 00:00 UTC, adding Taichi Yagami with Agumon and Yamato Ishida with Gabumon as playable heroes on the continent of Esperia. The event is running now on iOS, Android and PC, and it is the fourth major licensed crossover Lilith Games has put into the idle RPG since launch.

What the AFK Journey Digimon crossover actually adds

Two hero units, not four. Each Digimon is bonded to its human partner and fights as a single unit, so Taichi and Agumon occupy one slot on your team and Yamato and Gabumon occupy another. Both are S-Level units according to published reports, which is a change from earlier AFK Journey crossovers that paired one top-tier lead with a lower-rarity support.

Taichi and Agumon are built as a physical-damage Warrior. Yamato and Gabumon are a magic-damage Mage. The two have listed synergy with each other, which is the game's usual nudge to run a crossover pair together rather than splitting them across formations.

The mechanical hook is Digivolution, and it works mid-combat rather than as a pre-battle toggle. When the unit casts its Ultimate for the first time in a fight, the Digimon evolves and the kit changes permanently for the rest of that battle. Agumon becomes WarGreymon and Gabumon becomes MetalGarurumon.

That evolution is not cosmetic. Agumon's attack range drops from 7 to 1 when it Digivolves, turning a ranged attacker into a melee one partway through the fight. If you place the unit at the back expecting it to stay there, it will not.

How to get the crossover heroes without spending

Both heroes are obtainable free. A seven-day login event gives one copy of each crossover hero, plus crossover-exclusive Invite Letters for pulling additional copies toward ascension. That is the part worth acting on, because login events run on a fixed clock and a missed day is a missed reward.

Alongside the login track, the event includes a bonding event centred on training Agumon and Gabumon, a daily check-in that pays out event currency, event missions, a dedicated crossover store, and limited-time cosmetic headgear for both hero pairs. Farlight Games, which publishes AFK Journey globally, has said hero headgear becomes available after launch rather than on day one.

How long the event runs, and what version you need

Reports place the end of the crossover around 14 to 15 September, which gives roughly four weeks. Lilith has not published a to-the-minute cutoff at the time of writing, so treat mid-September as the working deadline and finish the login track early rather than late.

You do not need a fresh client version for it. The crossover runs inside Version 1.7.3, the patch that landed on 6 August with the heroes Rolan and Voracia, the Clash of Glory guild mode and the Doomword Phantom Primal Lord. If you have been playing since early August you are already on the right build; if you have not opened the game in a few weeks, update before you try to claim anything.

Which platforms get it

All of them, at the same time. AFK Journey runs on iOS, Android and PC, and the crossover went live globally at 00:00 UTC rather than staggering by region. Progress is shared across platforms on the same account, so claiming the login rewards on a phone and then playing on PC works exactly as it normally does.

If you would rather play it with a controller, the game is one of many that handle external pads well — see our tested list of Android games with gamepad support.

The wider mobile gacha calendar

This lands in a busy fortnight. Wuthering Waves opened preloading for version 3.6 at 22GB on PC and 13GB on Android and iOS, and Genshin players hunting freebies can check our running list of working Genshin Impact redeem codes. At the other end of the cycle, Konami confirmed that Castlevania: Grimoire of Souls ends service on 3 September.

One caution on codes. No AFK Journey redeem code tied specifically to the Digimon crossover has been confirmed by Lilith or Farlight, despite several circulating on aggregator sites. The free heroes come from the login event, not from a code.

Frequently Asked Questions

When did the AFK Journey Digimon crossover start?

It went live on 18 August 2026 at 00:00 UTC, globally and on every platform at once. There was no staggered regional rollout. Published reports put the end of the event around 14 to 15 September, so you have roughly four weeks to finish the event tracks.

Are the Digimon heroes free in AFK Journey?

Yes. A seven-day login event grants one free copy of each crossover hero, Taichi with Agumon and Yamato with Gabumon, along with crossover-exclusive Invite Letters. You need to log in on each of the seven days to collect the full set, so a missed day costs you rewards you cannot get back.

Is there an AFK Journey Digimon redeem code?

No crossover-specific redeem code has been confirmed by Lilith Games or Farlight Games, even though several are circulating on third-party code sites. The free heroes come from the in-game login event rather than from a code. General AFK Journey codes for diamonds and Invite Letters are unrelated to the crossover.

What does Digivolution do in AFK Journey?

The Digimon evolves the first time the unit casts its Ultimate in a battle, and the upgraded kit stays for the rest of that fight. Agumon becomes WarGreymon and Gabumon becomes MetalGarurumon. It changes positioning too: Agumon's attack range drops from 7 to 1 after evolving, so a unit you placed as a ranged attacker ends the fight in melee.

Which platforms and version do I need?

AFK Journey runs on iOS, Android and PC, and the crossover is live on all three. It runs inside Version 1.7.3, the update released on 6 August that also added the heroes Rolan and Voracia and the Clash of Glory guild mode. Update the client before trying to claim event rewards if you have not played recently.
