Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 Double RAM to 4GB With No Price Rise
Apple doubled the memory in the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 to 4GB, twice what the Series 11 and Ultra 3 carried, and it did so without moving either starting price. The Series 12 still opens at $399 and the Ultra 4 at $799 in the United States, the same figures as last year's models.
Apple never said any of this on stage or in its spec sheets. The company does not publish RAM figures for the Apple Watch at all. The 4GB number came out of Xcode 27, Apple's developer toolkit, which assigns every device a memory class value that maps directly to how much RAM it has.
Why 4GB in a watch is a bigger deal than it sounds
Two gigabytes had been the ceiling on Apple Watch for several generations. Memory is the constraint that decides how much a watch can hold in active use at once, which matters more now that Apple is running on-device models rather than simply relaying requests to a phone.
Both new watches use the S11 chip, and Apple is pinning its Siri AI and Audio Intelligence work on that silicon. Apple lists Siri AI as rolling out in English, with some Audio Intelligence features arriving in beta late in 2026. Doubling the memory is the kind of change that makes those features workable on the wrist rather than a phone-tethered trick.
The price is the story
Memory chips are in the middle of a supply squeeze that has already reshaped hardware pricing this year. Apple raised prices across iPhone, iPad and Mac lines partly because of it. A watch needs far less memory than a laptop, so the absolute cost of the upgrade is small — but Apple still chose to absorb it in a year when it did not absorb the equivalent elsewhere.

Apple rates the Series 12 for up to 24 hours of normal use, with 15 minutes of fast charging adding up to 12 hours. The aluminium cases now use Ceramic Shield 2, which Apple says is 60 percent tougher than the Ion-X glass it replaces. Does this change anything for an older watch?
No. The memory is soldered into the package alongside the S11, so nothing about this reaches a Series 11, an Ultra 3 or anything before them. Those models still receive watchOS 27, but the features Apple gates behind the newer silicon stay gated.
