Battlefield 6 Season 5 Is Live: Update 2.1.1.0 Adds Vegas Strip, Area 51 and Four New Guns

Battlefield 6 Season 5, called Siege of Vegas, went live on October 13 with game update 2.1.1.0, adding two Las Vegas-themed maps, four new weapons and a faster battle royale mode called Rapid Royale. The patch became available to download from 08:00 UTC on PC (EA app, Steam and Epic Games Store), PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, and the season's content unlocked at 12:00 UTC.

The same day, Battlefield 6 also became playable for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass members through EA Play. That makes this the first season a large number of US players can try without buying the game.

What's new in Battlefield 6 Season 5 on day one

The studio's patch notes and season roadmap list the following as available from October 13:

  • Two maps: Vegas Strip and Area 51.
  • Four weapons: the Mk 24 assault rifle, the RSPR personal defence weapon, the Z84M light machine gun with a 100-round magazine, and the ELR-40 bolt-action sniper rifle.
  • Rapid Royale: a REDSEC battle royale variant in Trios and Solos, with fewer players, airdrops and a ring of fire that closes faster. Mirak Valley is one of its maps.
  • Ranked Battle Royale: leaves the Battlefield Labs test programme and launches officially.
  • Multiplayer Leaderboards are added.
  • Gauntlet is removed from Battlefield 6 as of this update.

The new Battle Pass has more than 100 tiers across four themed paths, with six instant unlocks. BF Pro adds six more exclusive unlocks, 25 tier skips, a 15% XP boost and 100-player Portal servers. The patch notes do not list a price for either.

The balance changes players will notice first

Most of update 2.1.1.0's numbers go into vehicles, and in particular into making helicopters harder to bring down with light rockets:

  • Light rockets now take 7 hits to kill a scout helicopter (was 4), 9 for an attack helicopter (was 5) and 15 for a transport helicopter (was 11). Their 70mm splash damage is cut by 30%.
  • The 35mm high-velocity anti-air gun now does 25 damage to infantry, up from 13, and no longer has an overheat penalty. Mobile AA turrets rotate 50% faster.
  • Tank rear hits between 86 and 94 degrees now deal 2.5x damage, and MBT and IFV health regeneration from critical to full now takes 8 seconds.
  • Gamepad recoil compensation drops from 11% to 5%, a nerf aimed squarely at controller players on PS5 and Xbox.
  • In REDSEC, armour plates go on 20% faster, but sniper and DMR reserve ammo falls from 70 to 60 rounds.

The headline fix is for black screens after a match ends, which the notes say should now happen less often. Footsteps are also easier to hear through partial cover, and friendly and enemy steps are easier to tell apart.

If you followed our coverage of Battlefield 6 update 1.4.2.5 and its Xbox Series S freeze fix, this is a far larger patch that changes how most vehicles play.

Can you play Battlefield 6 Season 5 for free?

There are three ways, depending on your platform:

  • Xbox and PC Game Pass: Battlefield 6 is included with EA Play, which comes with Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. Ultimate members can also stream it through Xbox Cloud Gaming. It arrived as part of the October Game Pass line-up. The Game of the Year Edition bonuses are not included and have to be bought separately.
  • PS5 and Steam free trial: the full game is free to play from October 15 to 19, with every map and mode unlocked.
  • REDSEC: the battle royale, including Rapid Royale, stays free-to-play on every platform.

EA Play members can also claim a Season 5 EA Play pack until January 18 and get 10% off the Ultimate Shortcut Kit and Battlefield Pro.

What's coming later in the season

EA's roadmap sets out two more drops. The Casino Heist update on November 10 adds a limited-time Casino Heist event and an infantry-focused European Casino map. The Frozen Aces update on December 8 brings Operation High Roller, Platoons, a server browser, reworked versions of Blackwell Fields and New Sobek City, and the B-81 Cavalry vehicle.

Before those, Marker Incursion, a Dead Space crossover event built around 16-player PvE, runs from October 20 to November 10, according to the patch notes. An Elite Series esports circuit with cash prizes is promised for later in the season, but no date has been given.

Season 5 lands a week before Call of Duty's next big release, with Modern Warfare 4's DMZ early access starting October 20, so the two shooters will be competing for the same players within days.
