Battlefield 6 Update 1.4.2.0 Unlocks at 12:00 UTC With Wake Island and a Free Trial Week

Battlefield 6 update 1.4.2.0 becomes downloadable at 08:00 UTC today and its new content switches on four hours later, at 12:00 UTC. That is 8 a.m. ET and 5 a.m. PT for the content unlock, and the same schedule applies on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC — there is no staggered regional rollout on this one.

This is the midseason drop for Season 4, and it lands alongside a Top Gun crossover event. It also carries the return of Wake Island, two new fighter jets, a new sniper rifle and a week where the game costs nothing to try.

When Battlefield 6 update 1.4.2.0 goes live on each platform

The two timings matter because they are not the same thing. From 08:00 UTC the patch itself can be pulled down on all three platforms, so players who queue it early are not waiting on a download when servers flip. The Top Gun event, the new modes and the new map do not appear in menus until 12:00 UTC.

The publisher has not stated a download size for any platform in the notes. Given that the update adds a full map, two vehicles and a battle royale point of interest, budget more space than a routine hotfix rather than assuming a small patch.

What the Top Gun update adds

Wake Island is the headline map return, the Pacific island layout that has appeared in the series for over two decades. Tsuru Reef has been widened to include playable aircraft carrier space, which is what makes the new mode work. In battle royale, Fort Lyndon gains a crashed carrier point of interest built around the USS Grant.

• Top Gun: Carrier Strike — a reworked Carrier Assault built around ground, naval and air squads fighting on the same objective
• Gauntlet: Fighter Sweep — a jets-only mode running inside REDSEC
• F/A-81F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat — two two-seat fighter jets, the Seacat using variable-sweep wings
• Interdictor sniper rifle — the longest-range infantry weapon in the game, unlocked through the Battle Pass rather than sold separately
• CJTF Helix — a new squad unit tied to the event

The crossover brings voiced character skins, with Miles Teller, Lewis Pullman and Charles Parnell reprising Rooster, Bob and Warlock. The studio has not published a price for the event cosmetics; the sniper rifle is the one confirmed free-through-progression unlock.

The free trial runs August 18 to 25

For one week the game is playable at no cost, covering six modes across four maps: Tsuru Reef, Wake Island, Cairo Bazaar and Hagental Base. Top Gun: Carrier Strike is included in that slice, which means the trial is not a stripped-back demo of old content.

Flight changes and Portal custom lobbies

Airplane Control Assist is the notable quality-of-life addition: a simplified flight scheme for players who have never been able to hold a jet steady. Jet landing gear physics and flight animations were reworked too, and countermeasure timing was adjusted.

Portal gets custom lobbies, though in an early form. They are limited to Battle Royale Quads and Conquest at launch, and spectating support remains incomplete. Other fixes cover laser-designated targets not appearing correctly for the Patrol Boat mortar, weapon statistics that tracked wrong, and animation problems when swapping weapons.

How it fits the rest of this month

August has been dense for shooters. The Modern Warfare 4 beta added a playable campaign mission, a first for the series, and the Gears of War: E-Day open beta ran its second weekend to everyone on Xbox Series X|S and PC. Hell Let Loose: Vietnam launched on a single global unlock earlier in the month.
