Control Resonant Assist Mode Adds 11 Combat Sliders That Also Raise Difficulty
Remedy has detailed the Assist Mode shipping with Control Resonant, and it breaks combat difficulty into 11 separate settings instead of one difficulty menu. The bigger change is direction: in the original Control the assist sliders could only make fights easier, while in Control Resonant they move both ways, so the same menu can also make the game harder. The game arrives 24 September 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Sergey Mohov, lead gameplay designer at Remedy, described the thinking as fixing the specific thing that is not working rather than lowering everything at once. "Instead of asking you to choose an overall difficulty, we let you change the specific parts of combat that aren't working for you," he wrote.
What is in Control Resonant's Assist Mode
The settings split into two groups. Most are sliders that scale a single combat variable up or down; the last three are straight toggles. Remedy named all 11:
- Enemy Aggression — how hard enemies push you
- Perfect Dodge Window — how much timing slack a perfect dodge allows
- Enemy Projectile Speed — how fast incoming shots travel
- Incoming Damage — how much damage you take
- Outgoing Damage — how much damage you deal
- Outgoing Falter — how easily your hits stagger enemies
- Power Recovery Speed — how quickly your abilities come back
- Enhanced Melee Magnetizing — how strongly melee attacks pull toward a target
- Immortality — a toggle that stops you dying
- One-Hit Kills — a toggle that drops enemies in a single hit
- One-Hit Falters — a toggle that staggers enemies in a single hit
Remedy has not published the numeric range on any individual slider, so how far each one bends is still unknown. The studio also says there are Assist Mode presets built around different ways of playing, which you pick first and then adjust by hand. It has not named those presets.
Why the two-way sliders matter
Assist options that only reduce challenge tend to be used once, by players who are stuck. Making the same sliders run upward turns the menu into a difficulty editor for everyone. A player who finds the combat readable but the dodge timing punishing can widen the Perfect Dodge Window and raise Enemy Aggression in the same pass, which no fixed Hard mode lets you do.
Remedy's argument is retention rather than accessibility alone. "If you run into a wall and the friction becomes too much, we'd much rather you adjust the rules and keep playing than put the controller down and stop," Mohov wrote.
Can you change it mid-game, and does it lock trophies?
You can turn Assist Mode on or off at any point during play, and adjust individual settings without restarting. Nothing is gated behind it. Remedy says no trophies or achievements are locked out by using Assist Mode, which means a player running Immortality and One-Hit Kills still earns the full list on PS5 and on Xbox Series X and Series S.
That is not universal in the genre, and it is the detail worth checking before you commit to a difficulty in any action game. Remedy's own recent work has leaned the same way on options rather than presets, as it did with the PC graphics settings in Alan Wake 2 update 1.2.10, which added FSR 4 and frame generation.
Which platforms get Control Resonant, and when
The digital launch is simultaneous on 24 September 2026 across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Mac version through Steam and the Mac App Store follows later in 2026, with no dated window yet. There is no PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2 release announced.
Disc buyers wait longer. Control Resonant's physical edition moved to 15 October, three weeks behind the digital release, while the digital date held.
Assist Mode is a console and PC feature, so it is not something you configure from a phone. Frequently Asked Questions
What is Assist Mode in Control Resonant?
Assist Mode is a set of 11 combat settings you adjust individually instead of picking one overall difficulty. Eight are sliders covering things like Incoming Damage, Enemy Aggression and Perfect Dodge Window, and three are toggles: Immortality, One-Hit Kills and One-Hit Falters. Unlike the original Control, the sliders move in both directions, so they can make combat harder as well as easier.
Does Assist Mode disable trophies or achievements in Control Resonant?
No. Remedy says no trophies or achievements are gated behind Assist Mode. You can play with Immortality and One-Hit Kills switched on and still earn the full list on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S.
Can you turn Assist Mode on and off mid-game?
Yes. Remedy says you can enable or disable Assist Mode at any point during gameplay, and change individual settings without restarting your save. There are also presets built around different playstyles that you can pick first and then fine-tune.
When does Control Resonant come out and on what platforms?
Control Resonant launches 24 September 2026 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store. A Mac version via Steam and the Mac App Store follows later in 2026. The physical disc edition arrives separately on 15 October.
Is Control Resonant on PS4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch 2?
