Crimson Desert Update 2.02.00 Fixes the Thornbriar Fortress Quest Block and Adds Mac Cross-Save
Crimson Desert update 2.02.00 went live at 05:30 UTC on 11 September, and its most important line is a single sentence buried under "Content": Thornbriar Fortress can now be liberated. That was a hard progression block, and it is fixed. The patch is out now on Steam for PC and Mac, PlayStation, Xbox and the Epic Games Store, with only the Mac App Store build still pending.

What Crimson Desert update 2.02.00 actually fixes
Pearl Abyss describes this as a bug-fix and stability patch, and that is accurate — there is no new region, boss or story content in it. What it does carry is an unusually high concentration of fixes for bugs that either stopped progress outright or ate your stuff:
- Thornbriar Fortress could not be liberated. Fixed. This is the headline item for anyone stuck mid-campaign.
- "The Words of Alustin" could soft-lock. The letter would disappear in certain situations and the quest could not advance. Fixed.
- Trade Goods Storage lost items on load. Some items would vanish from storage when loading certain save files. Fixed.
- Howling Hill Camp housing. Raising the banner with a full inventory would fail to unlock housing. Fixed.
- Lantern lighting on NPCs. Shining a lantern on an NPC no longer fails to reveal their belongings.
Items disappearing from storage is the one worth reading twice. If you noticed trade goods missing over the past week and assumed you had sold them, the cause was a save-loading bug rather than anything you did.
PC players get a DLSS Frame Generation crash fix
The graphics section is short but it matters on PC. Starting a new game with DLSS Frame Generation enabled would crash the game, and that is now fixed. Pearl Abyss has spent several patches chasing upscaling problems — the August release fixed rendering corruption under FSR and XeSS frame generation, which we covered in our breakdown of Crimson Desert update 1.18 and its FSR frame generation fix.
Two more visual issues are addressed: noise on armour that was especially obvious indoors, and an odd rendering of Kliff while wearing the Crow Cloth Blindfold with certain settings on. UI text that appeared to shake in some situations has also been corrected. If frame generation is new territory for you, our look at how NVIDIA's DLSS 5 handles AI-generated frames explains what these settings are doing to the image.
Mac finally gets cross-save
The one genuine addition in 2.02.00 is cross-save support for Mac. Mac players can now carry a save between platforms rather than keeping a separate run. That lands with an asterisk, though: the patch is live on Steam for Mac immediately, while the Mac App Store build is still rolling out and Pearl Abyss lists it as in progress. Everyone else — Steam on PC, PlayStation, Xbox, Epic — can install it now.
Version numbers and download size
On PC the version reads 2.02.00. On consoles the same patch shows up under a different number: PlayStation 5 players are downloading it as update 1.000.525, weighing in at roughly 613MB according to published patch trackers. Pearl Abyss itself does not publish per-platform file sizes, so treat the exact figure as approximate and expect the Xbox download to land in the same range.
It arrives a week after version 2.01.00 on 4 September, which was a much larger patch — that one added a Gold Bar Investment dispatch mission, multiplied camp funds from silver donations by ten, and allowed the photo mode camera to tilt. The cadence has stayed roughly weekly since the Enhanced release.
Should you install it before a long session
Yes, and particularly if you are mid-campaign. Two of the fixes here unblock quests, and a third stops save files from quietly shedding inventory. There is no listed change to combat balance or difficulty, so nothing about your build changes. Localisation errors across all languages have been cleaned up, including Arabic text that was not displaying correctly.
Pearl Abyss maintains a separate known-issues notice that this patch does not close out, so a handful of reported problems remain open. The next thing on the calendar is the Charting the Unknown DLC on 15 October, which opened pre-orders on 3 September. Patch-heavy launch months like this one are increasingly normal for big single-player releases — Dragon's Dogma 2's update 3.2 followed the same pattern, as did The Witcher 3 Remastered's save and skill-point handling.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does Crimson Desert update 2.02.00 fix?
It fixes an issue where Thornbriar Fortress could not be liberated, a disappearing letter that blocked progress in "The Words of Alustin", items vanishing from Trade Goods Storage when loading certain saves, and housing failing to unlock at Howling Hill Camp with a full inventory. On PC it also fixes a crash when starting a new game with DLSS Frame Generation enabled.
How big is the Crimson Desert 2.02.00 download?
On PlayStation 5 the patch appears as update 1.000.525 and published patch trackers put it at roughly 613MB. Pearl Abyss does not publish per-platform file sizes officially, so treat that figure as approximate. The Xbox and PC downloads are expected to be similar in size.
Is Crimson Desert update 2.02.00 available on Mac?
Yes on Steam for Mac, which got the patch at the same time as every other platform. The Mac App Store version is still rolling out and Pearl Abyss has listed it as in progress rather than available. The patch is what adds cross-save support for Mac players.
Does Crimson Desert 2.02.00 add any new content?
No new region, boss or story content. The only genuine addition is Mac cross-save; everything else is bug fixes, localisation cleanup and stability work. The next content drop is the Charting the Unknown DLC on 15 October 2026.
Do I need to restart my save after installing the patch?
No. The fixes apply to existing saves, which is the point of the Thornbriar Fortress and "The Words of Alustin" corrections — players already stuck on those quests should be able to continue after updating. Items already lost from Trade Goods Storage are not restored by the patch.
