Fable's Main Quest Is 15-20 Hours, With 135GB and an SSD Needed on PC
Playground Games has put a number on Fable's main quest for the first time: roughly 15 to 20 hours to reach the credits, with about as much again waiting in side content and open-world detours. The estimate came from associate game director Will Kennedy during a group interview at Gamescom, and it lands the same week the studio published the game's PC specification list on Steam.
Fable arrives on 23 February 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, and PC, and it is a day-one Game Pass title. It is the first mainline entry in the series since Fable III in 2010.

How long the Fable main quest takes to beat
Fifteen to twenty hours is a deliberately narrow critical path for a modern open-world RPG, and Playground has been clear that the number describes the main quest alone. Kennedy put the optional content at a comparable 15 to 20 hours, which puts a reasonably thorough single playthrough somewhere in the 30 to 40 hour range.
The caveat the studio attached matters. Individual runs will vary because side quests and main quests overlap in Albion rather than sitting in separate buckets, so players who follow distractions will finish the story with a much larger clock reading. Playground also described the game's simulation systems as continuing after the credits, which is where the studio's talk of playing indefinitely comes from — not from the main quest being padded out.
What the Fable PC requirements ask for
The Steam listing carries two tiers, and neither is exotic. What stands out is the storage line.
- Minimum: Windows 10 22H2, AMD Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i7-6850K, 12GB RAM, Radeon RX 6600 / GeForce RTX 2060 / GeForce RTX 5050 / Intel Arc A580, DirectX 12, 135GB on an SSD
- Recommended: Windows 10 22H2, AMD Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel i5-11600KF, 16GB RAM, Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 3060 Ti, DirectX 12, 135GB on an SSD
An SSD is listed as required, not advised, on both tiers. The 135GB install is the figure to plan around if you are running a 1TB drive with a couple of live-service games already on it.
The GPU floor is the interesting part. An RTX 2060 is a 2019 card and an RX 6600 is a budget 1080p part, so the minimum tier is aimed squarely at hardware people already own rather than hardware they need to buy. That matters more than usual right now, because budget graphics cards are taking the worst price hikes in years and even the relaunched RTX 3060 12GB has climbed to $480. Playground has not published target resolutions or frame rates against either tier, so treat the recommended row as a 1080p-to-1440p starting point rather than a promise.
Which platforms get Fable, and how Game Pass fits
All three platforms launch together on 23 February 2027. On PC the game is sold through Steam and the Microsoft Store, and the Xbox version is an Xbox Play Anywhere title, so a single purchase covers console and PC.
Game Pass subscribers get it on day one. Microsoft has not said which tiers qualify, and that split has become a real distinction since the service was restructured — the most recent Game Pass wave put several titles on Ultimate and PC Game Pass while leaving Premium subscribers out. Assume Ultimate and PC Game Pass until Microsoft confirms otherwise.
The PlayStation 5 release is the one worth flagging. Xbox has been shipping its first-party games to Sony's console for over a year now, and Fable is on that list from day one rather than arriving late. That is a different position from the hardware side of the business, where Xbox is still selling consoles against a PS5 install base several times larger.
What Playground has not said
There is no word yet on frame rate modes for consoles, no confirmation of upscaling support beyond the DLSS and FSR mentions on the store page, and no preload date. Playground is also carrying Forza Horizon 6 alongside Fable, and reports over the weekend suggested that game's PlayStation 5 version has slipped into 2027 — neither Microsoft nor the studio has confirmed any change to its release plans.
If you are waiting on a phone rather than a PC, the site's list of offline RPGs for Android covers what plays well without a console attached.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long is Fable's main quest?
Playground Games estimates the main quest at roughly 15 to 20 hours. Associate game director Will Kennedy gave the figure in a group interview at Gamescom, and said there is a comparable 15 to 20 hours of side content and open-world activity on top of that. A thorough single playthrough should land somewhere between 30 and 40 hours.
What are the PC system requirements for Fable?
The minimum tier asks for Windows 10 22H2, a Ryzen 5 2600 or Intel i7-6850K, 12GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 6600, GeForce RTX 2060, GeForce RTX 5050 or Intel Arc A580. Recommended moves to a Ryzen 5 5600 or Intel i5-11600KF, 16GB of RAM and a Radeon RX 6700 XT or GeForce RTX 3060 Ti. Both tiers list 135GB of storage on an SSD.
How big is the Fable install?
The Steam listing states 135GB of available space for both the minimum and recommended tiers, and an SSD is listed as required rather than recommended. Console install sizes have not been published. Plan for the figure to move before launch, as install sizes are frequently revised in the weeks before release.
Is Fable on Game Pass?
Yes. Fable is a day-one Game Pass title on 23 February 2027. Microsoft has not confirmed which subscription tiers it will appear on, so it is not yet clear whether Game Pass Premium subscribers get it alongside Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
Is Fable coming to PS5?
Yes. Fable launches on PlayStation 5 on 23 February 2027, the same day as the Xbox Series X and Series S and PC versions. There is no staggered release, so PlayStation players are not waiting for a later port.
