LineageOS 24.0, the first release of the free custom Android build based on Android 17, came out on Sunday, October 11, 2026. The project's device wiki already lists LineageOS 24.0 as the current version for 224 phones, tablets and handhelds, including every Google Pixel from the Pixel 4 to the Pixel 10 series, and it costs nothing to install in the US or anywhere else.

  • Version: LineageOS 24.0, based on Android 17
  • Released: October 11, 2026
  • Devices on 24.0: 224 listed on the LineageOS Wiki as of October 12, more to follow as maintainers finish builds
  • Security patches: merged through the October 2026 Android bulletin
  • Price: free
  • How to get it: a manual sideload from an official build; the built-in Updater app will not jump versions

Which phones sold in the US can run LineageOS 24.0?

LineageOS 24.0 support is strongest on Pixel, OnePlus and Motorola phones. The table below picks out the US-relevant phone families from the 224 devices the LineageOS Wiki lists on the 24.0 branch. Region-specific models, TV boxes and development boards are left out.

Phones LineageOS 24.0 covers that their makers dropped

LineageOS 24.0 is most useful on phones whose official updates have stopped. Sony's own Android 17 rollout covers only five handsets, as we noted when Sony named its five Xperia phones for Android 17. LineageOS 24.0 lists 16 Xperia models, including the Xperia 1 V, Xperia 5 V and Xperia 10 V that Sony left out.

The same goes for Nothing. The Nothing Phone (1) was cut off when Nothing OS 5.0 arrived on Android 17, yet it is on the LineageOS 24.0 list. The Pixel 6 family joins the list just as the Pixel October 2026 update is shaping up to be its last from Google.

What else is new in LineageOS 24.0

The October 11 release notes call Android 17 mostly an iterative update, and LineageOS 24.0 arrives earlier than usual because the team's past rebasing work carried over. The main additions:

  • Canvas, a new photo editor for cropping, white balance and filters, designed to pair with the Glimpse gallery and Aperture camera apps.
  • A redesigned Updater that streams updates by default, which the project says cuts install time on A/B devices.
  • Browser-based flash tools at the project's flash site that use WebUSB to send ADB, Fastboot and Samsung Odin installs straight from a browser. The wiki guides stay the supported method.
  • Material Design 3 Expressive across many LineageOS apps and the setup wizard, plus faster loading in the Twelve music app on large libraries.

Phones running Linux kernel 4.4 or 4.9 will not get official 24.0 builds, even where someone has ported them. LineageOS 22.2, based on Android 15, keeps those devices and continues receiving monthly security patches.

How to upgrade to LineageOS 24.0

If you already run an official LineageOS build, the device wiki's upgrade guide does not wipe your data, though the project still recommends a backup. The steps on the wiki's Google Pixel 6 page are:

  1. Download the LineageOS 24.0 zip for your device. If you use Google Apps, download the matching Android 17 package now as well.
  2. Install adb on your computer and turn on USB debugging on the phone.
  3. Run adb -d reboot sideload. A blank black screen at this point is a known recovery bug, so carry on.
  4. Run adb -d sideload followed by the path to the zip.
  5. To add Google Apps, choose Advanced, then Reboot to Recovery, then Apply update, then Apply from ADB, and sideload the package. Tap Continue at the signature warning, which is expected for add-ons.
  6. Tap the back arrow, then Reboot system now.

First-time installs take longer. The phone needs the stock firmware version named on its wiki page first (Android 17 for the Pixel 6), all Google accounts removed to avoid Factory Reset Protection, and an unlocked bootloader, a step that erases everything on the device. Moving from an unofficial build also means following the full install guide.

If a phone starts misbehaving after a big Android upgrade, official or not, our guide to an Android phone that keeps restarting covers the usual fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is LineageOS 24.0 based on Android 17?

Yes. LineageOS 24.0, released on October 11, 2026, is the project's first release built on Android 17. It also includes Android security patches through the October 2026 bulletin.

Which Pixel phones does LineageOS 24.0 support?

The LineageOS Wiki lists 27 Google devices on LineageOS 24.0: every Pixel from the Pixel 4 and 4 XL through the Pixel 10 series, plus the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 11 series was not on the list as of October 12, 2026.

Can I update to LineageOS 24.0 from the Updater app?

No. The LineageOS Updater app blocks upgrades between major versions, so moving from LineageOS 23.x to 24.0 means sideloading the new zip with adb from recovery. On an official build this upgrade does not wipe your data, but a backup is still recommended.

Does installing LineageOS 24.0 erase my phone?

A first-time install does, because unlocking the bootloader wipes all data on the phone. Upgrading an existing official LineageOS build to 24.0 does not wipe data, unless your device's wiki page says otherwise.

Is the Nothing Phone (1) supported by LineageOS 24.0?

Yes. The Nothing Phone (1) is listed on the LineageOS 24.0 branch, even though Nothing left it out of its own Android 17 update, Nothing OS 5.0. LineageOS 24.0 is a free, community-built version of Android 17 rather than an official Nothing update.
