Pokemon GO Harvest Festival dates and what is new

The event is titled Harvest Festival: Applin Picking. It starts and ends on local time rather than a global clock, so the window is the same wherever you play. Seven days, no staggered regional rollout.

The headline addition is the Shiny Applin debut. Applin has been catchable in Pokemon GO for years without a Shiny form, and this is the first event where the encounter can roll Shiny. There is also an increased Shiny rate on Smoliv for the duration.

Wild spawns, apples and Mossy Lure Modules

Mossy Lure Modules behave differently during the event. Instead of pulling in Bug, Grass and Poison types the way they normally do, they attract apples. Tapping those apples awards Tart Apples, Sweet Apples or Syrupy Apples, or an encounter with an event Pokemon such as Applin or a Cottonee wearing a flower crown.

Wild encounters lean on the same theme. Skwovet, Lechonk, Smoliv and Applin all appear at increased rates, and all four can be Shiny.

Timed Research branches into three paths, and the one you pick decides which apple type you are rewarded with. Whichever you choose, the tasks expire with the event: everything has to be completed and claimed by October 5 at 8:00 p.m. local time.

How much the GO Pass Deluxe costs

A free GO Pass: Harvest Festival is granted automatically to every Trainer when the event opens on September 29. Ranking it up through GO Points earns event Pokemon encounters, apples, a Mossy Lure Module and a Super Rocket Radar.

Buying the Deluxe at any point still unlocks the rewards from ranks you already passed, so there is no penalty for upgrading late. The catch is the claim window: rewards unlocked in the GO Pass expire on Wednesday, October 7 at 8:00 p.m. local time, two days after the event itself ends. Anything left unclaimed after that is gone.

Three of the free pass tiers carry bonuses rather than items. Rank 1 raises the chance that a caught Applin is holding an apple. Rank 10 extends Mossy Lure Modules to a full hour. Rank 20 increases Stardust from beating Team GO Rocket Grunts and Leaders. Scopely says more bonus tasks will be added to the pass during the event.

Buying through the web store instead of the app

The Pokemon GO Web Store gives extra items with the same purchase. Upgrading to GO Pass Deluxe there adds 10 Ultra Balls, five Max Revives, one Premium Battle Pass and five Max Potions. The + 6 Ranks version through the web store bumps that to two Premium Battle Passes.

There is also a web-exclusive Ultra Box bundled with the + 6 Ranks upgrade, containing 20 Ultra Balls, 10 Max Revives, 10 Max Potions and five Premium Battle Passes. A pass bought on the web store activates when the event begins, not at purchase.

Availability of the GO Pass Deluxe varies by region, so the paid tiers may not appear in every country.

Harvest Festival follows a busy stretch.
