How much does the Steam Frame cost?

The Steam Frame costs $1,059 for the 256GB model and $1,299 for the 1TB model in the US. UK prices are £889 and £1,089, EU prices are €1,049 and €1,279, and Australian prices are A$1,609 and A$1,969, all including VAT where it applies. The two models are identical apart from storage.

When do Steam Frame reservation signups close?

Signups close on 17 September 2026 at 10 a.m. Pacific time. Valve then randomises each list once and emails everyone the same day to say whether they are in the reservation queue or on the waitlist. Signing up earlier does not improve your place.

When will Steam Frame orders ship?

Valve has not given a shipping date. Purchase emails start going out on 18 September in queue order as units become available, and each buyer has 72 hours to complete checkout before the reservation passes to the next person.

Does the Steam Frame come with a charger?

No, there is no power supply in the box. A Steam Deck charger or any USB-C charger rated at 45W or more will work. Valve sells its own 45W power supply for $29, but only as an add-on at checkout.

Can I get Half-Life: Alyx free with Steam Frame if I already own it?

No. Half-Life: Alyx is included with every Steam Frame and is redeemed from the headset's settings, but if the game is already in your Steam library you cannot claim another copy. Only one copy can be redeemed per device.

What is the Steam Frame price in each region?

Valve published prices in six currencies. Every figure includes VAT where it applies, and both models come with the headset, the Steam Frame Controllers and a wireless adapter.

The only difference between the two is storage, so the 1TB model is a $240 storage upgrade in the US. Both have a microSD slot, which makes the cheaper model the easier call for most buyers. In Japan, Taiwan and Hong Kong, the headset is sold through the authorised distributor KOMODO instead of Steam, and Valve says South Korea is coming soon. KOMODO sets its own local prices.

How the Steam Frame reservation queue works

Signing up early gives you no advantage. Valve says it spread signups over several days so that bots, resellers and people refreshing the page do not get priority.

17 September: Valve closes signups, shuffles each list once, and emails everyone to say whether they are in the reservation queue or on the waitlist.

Once your purchase email arrives, you have 72 hours to check out. After that, the reservation is cancelled and passes to the next person. Each model has its own list, and so does each shipping region: North America, the UK and EU, and Australia. Steam places you on your region's list automatically. A spot on the waitlist means your place is beyond the number of units currently available. Valve says it will email you if cancellations move you into the queue.

Valve has not given a shipping date for the first units. It says only that purchase emails will go out as stock is ready.

Is Half-Life: Alyx really included?

Yes, both models include it. You claim the game from the settings menu after signing in on the headset. There is a catch for existing VR players: if Half-Life: Alyx is already in your Steam library, you cannot claim a second copy, and each headset can redeem only one copy.

What the Steam Frame does not come with

There is no power supply in the box. Valve says a Steam Deck charger works, as does any USB-C charger rated at 45W or higher. It will also sell three first-party accessories, but only as add-ons at checkout for people who have received a purchase email:

If you already use a 45W charger for a phone or laptop, the power supply is the one add-on you can skip.

Steam Frame specs

The headset is a standalone SteamOS 3 computer as well as a streaming display for your PC. Its store listing gives these specs:

That is the same flagship chip found in the best Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 phones, and it is what runs games on the headset without a PC. Valve says more than 100 games already carry its Steam Frame Standalone Verified badge. Everything else in your library, VR or flat-screen, can be streamed from a gaming PC.

For context, the Valve Index full kit launched at $999 in 2019 and needed a PC plus external base stations. The Frame costs $60 more but works on its own, and Half-Life: Alyx is included again. Valve's handheld has had a rougher run with some games lately; For Honor recently blocked Steam Deck and Linux players, a reminder to check a game's status before relying on SteamOS to run it. Anyone in Australia signing up should also note the new Steam age verification rules that require a credit card for R18+ games.
