TMNT Splintered Fate Ver. 2.0 Adds the Rat King Finale and Paid Slash DLC

Super Evil Megacorp pushed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate to Ver. 2.0 on 18 August, closing out the roguelike's main story with a Rat King boss fight and adding Slash as a paid eighth character. The free half of the TMNT Splintered Fate update, called The King's Gambit, lands on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2 and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Two separate things shipped at once, and the difference matters if you already own the game. The King's Gambit costs nothing. Slash is a character DLC you buy.
What the TMNT Splintered Fate update actually changes
The King's Gambit gives the campaign an ending it has been missing since launch. The Rat King is the new endgame encounter, and he is gated: the studio has said you need to rescue Master Splinter and beat Shredder several times before the fight unlocks. During it, the Rat King can call previously defeated bosses in as allies, so the fight recycles the run's earlier encounters instead of introducing one new moveset.
Clearing him triggers a new ending. The update also drops a companion called Pepperoni into the Lair as a Home Lair ally, which is cosmetic-flavoured rather than a combat change.
- New endgame boss: the Rat King, unlocked after repeat Shredder clears
- A new ending for the main story arc
- Pepperoni added as a Home Lair ally
- Version bumped to 2.0 across console and PC builds
What you get for buying the Slash DLC
Slash is the eighth playable character and the heaviest one in the roster. He trades movement speed for bulk, leaning on claw swipes, body slams and rolls that knock enemies back, plus an Enraged mode that temporarily raises his speed and damage. His tool is a meteoric explosion that deals Dark damage, and he has natural affinities for Water and Ooze powers.
You unlock him by defeating Leatherhead once the DLC is installed. Five Artifacts come with him: the Rad Skateboard, Pile of Candy, Ragged Eyepatch, Stylish Pants and Battered Helmet. A separate Samurai Armor Pack adds new skins for all eight playable characters, including the original four Turtles.
Steam lists Slash at ₹200, cut 10 percent to ₹180 until 1 September. Store prices are set per region, so check your own PlayStation Store, Microsoft Store, eShop or Steam listing rather than converting that figure.
Which platforms get it, and what happens to the bundles
Splintered Fate started life as an Apple Arcade exclusive in May 2023 for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and tvOS before spreading to consoles and PC. The studio's Ver. 2.0 announcement covered the console and PC storefronts; it did not spell out when the Apple Arcade build moves to 2.0, so treat mobile timing as unconfirmed. If you play Apple's subscription catalogue on a phone, our look at the Madden NFL 27 Arcade Edition on Apple Arcade covers how that service handles console ports.
On the bundle side, the Gold Edition is being replaced by a Platinum Edition that collects everything paid released so far: Slash, Casey Jones and the Junkyard Jam, Metalhead, Alopex, the Samurai armours and every free update. There is a launch discount on it.
A physical Legendary Edition is also coming to Switch 2 on 27 October, with pre-orders open now. Switch 2 has been collecting a lot of these late ports and re-releases this year, from DayZ's Switch 2 file size and price to the Oblivion Remastered download on Switch 2, and Splintered Fate's boxed run fits the same pattern.
Is it worth reinstalling
If you stopped playing after Shredder, the free update is the reason to come back, not the DLC. The Rat King fight and the new ending are the content that changes what the game is, and they cost nothing. Slash is an extra run variant for people already deep in the loop.
Four-player co-op is still the core of it, on couch or online depending on platform. If you are playing the PC or mobile build with a pad, our guide to Android games with gamepad support is a useful companion for controller setup.
Super Evil Megacorp developed the game, with Paramount Games publishing. Ver. 2.0 is live now on the platforms listed above.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the TMNT Splintered Fate King's Gambit update free?
Yes. The King's Gambit update, which takes the game to Ver. 2.0, is free for anyone who already owns Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Splintered Fate. It adds the Rat King endgame boss, a new ending and a Home Lair ally. The Slash character is sold separately as paid DLC.

Ver. 2.0 is out on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2 and PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store. The game also exists on Apple Arcade for iOS, iPadOS, macOS and tvOS, but the studio has not confirmed when that version updates.
How do you unlock the Rat King in Splintered Fate?

How much does the Slash DLC cost?

Is there a physical edition of TMNT Splintered Fate?
Yes. A physical Legendary Edition is releasing for Nintendo Switch 2 on 27 October 2026, and pre-orders are already open. Digitally, a Platinum Edition bundle replaces the old Gold Edition and includes Slash, Casey Jones and the Junkyard Jam, Metalhead, Alopex, the Samurai armours and all free updates.
