2XKO patch 1.3.1 goes live on 8 September, and it is the update that switches Riot's fighting game off as a business. Every champion now unlocks automatically, the Battle Pass and Champion Tokens are gone, Ranked mode is disabled, and the entire store collapses into a single item: the 2XKO Ultimate Bundle at $39.99. The patch lands on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at the same time.

Riot called 1.3.1 its largest content patch yet, which is true in raw volume and slightly odd in context. The studio announced in August that it was refunding every 2XKO purchase and ending active development in December. This is the promised September wind-down, and it arrives with a new champion attached.

What 2XKO patch 1.3.1 changes about progression

The paid ladder is simply removed rather than converted. Riot has taken out the systems that gated the roster and replaced them with nothing, so what used to cost currency or grinding is now just there when you log in.

  • All champions unlock automatically, and Champion Tokens are removed entirely
  • The Battle Pass is gone, and Season 3 has been extended with no end date
  • The Credits cap lifts from 12,000, so the free currency no longer stops accumulating
  • Most avatar items, chromas, stages and some player cards are now buyable with Credits, including several that were previously locked inside paid bundles
  • The rotating shop and Starter Editions are removed, and KO Points can no longer be purchased

One thing did not go free. The 2XKO Ultimate Bundle stays on sale at $39.99 and covers most champion skins, chromas, finishers, taunts and avatar items. Riot says it will be topped up again in patch 1.3.3 with that patch's new cosmetics, including Samira's launch skin, and that anyone who already owns the bundle collects the additions automatically at no extra cost.

Lux arrives, and Ranked mode does not survive the patch

Lux, Lady of Luminosity, releases on 8 September as an all-rounder mage built around air movement and projectile mixups. She is available to everyone from day one because of the champion unlock change. Samira is the last champion still to come, and she is tied to patch 1.3.3.

Ranked mode is disabled starting with 1.3.1. That is the single change most likely to matter to the people still queuing daily, and Riot states it flatly in the notes without a return date. Private lobbies partly absorb the gap: there is now a larger private lobby option holding up to 40 players, using the same map as the Casual lobby.

Three additions to The Climb

The PVE mode gets the patch's actual new content. Two harder difficulty settings, Expert and Pro, are selectable when you start a run. Ascension lets you keep a run going after the final boss falls, picking a debuff each time to raise the difficulty of later encounters.

The third addition is Tales of 2XKO. Put Lux, Thresh or Senna in the Point slot and you get new dialogue between encounters. Riot also fixed a Climb bug where Juggernaut and Sidekick players lost Super and Break meter between rounds if they swapped champions at the start of a round, and a softlock that triggered when opening the pause menu during a loading screen.

The balance pass is unusually deep for a wind-down patch

Hurtboxes have been standardised. Champions are now sorted into Small, Medium, Large or Unique buckets for standing and crouching hurtbox height, and head hurtboxes sit in the same position on every champion except Braum and Warwick. Darius drops from Large to Medium standing. Every champion now shares the same collision pill, hurtbox and throwbox wall in a wall slump state, which kills character-specific wall slump combos outright.

Freestyle's Break meter penalty falls from 35% to 20%, which Riot ties to Freestyle feeling punishing on defence against high-damage teams. Pushblock now shoves opponents 33% farther and has four extra frames of recovery. Assists take the hit in exchange: they now suffer 75% true damage and recover less life when struck.

Getup attacks now require holding the input for four frames rather than being checked on one specific frame, and Break and Fury Break can no longer be activated during a getup attack. Riot links this to the arrival of the game's first fully invincible special move. On PlayStation 5 specifically, a Variable Refresh Rate settings bug has been fixed.

Where 2XKO stands after this

Servers stay online. Riot has not announced an end-of-service date, a delisting, or a shutdown timer, and offline play is unaffected either way. After Samira lands in 1.3.3, the update cadence drops to bug fixes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are all 2XKO champions free now?

Yes. From patch 1.3.1 on 8 September, every champion in 2XKO unlocks automatically for all players on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Champion Tokens, the currency that used to gate the roster, have been removed from the game entirely. Lux is included from her release day.

How much does the 2XKO Ultimate Bundle cost?

The 2XKO Ultimate Bundle is $39.99 and is the only item left in the store after patch 1.3.1. It unlocks most champion skins, chromas, taunts, finishers and avatar items. Riot will add patch 1.3.3's new cosmetics to it later, and existing owners get those automatically without paying again.

Is Ranked mode still in 2XKO?

No. Ranked mode is disabled starting with patch 1.3.1, and Riot has not given a date for it coming back. Casual play and The Climb are unaffected. Private lobbies now support up to 40 players and use the same map as the Casual lobby, which is the closest thing to an organised alternative.

When does Lux release in 2XKO?

Lux, Lady of Luminosity, releases on 8 September 2026 alongside patch 1.3.1. She is an all-rounder mage who uses air movement and projectiles to mix up opponents. She is free like every other champion, and picking her as your Point champion in The Climb unlocks the new Tales of 2XKO dialogue.

Is 2XKO shutting down?

Not yet. Riot ended active development and is refunding purchases, but the servers stay online and there is no announced end-of-service or delisting date. Offline play is unaffected. After Samira arrives in patch 1.3.3, updates drop to bug fixes only.
