Acer Vero 16 Adds Tool-Free Repairs and Two-Generation CPU Upgrades, EMEA in Q1 2027
Acer opened IFA 2026 by announcing the Vero 16, a 16-inch OLED laptop whose bottom cover pops off with a latch instead of a screwdriver and whose motherboard is designed to accept new Intel processors for at least two generations. It ships in Q1 2027, and only in Europe, the Middle East and Africa at launch.
That last detail matters as much as the repairability pitch. Acer has not announced a North American release, an Asian one, or a price in any currency, so for now this is a machine European buyers can plan around and everyone else can only watch.
What actually comes apart
Acer has gone further than the usual "user-replaceable battery" claim. Five parts of the Vero 16 are designed to be serviced by the owner:

- The external hinge, which detaches as a unit

One thing is not on that list. The Vero 16 uses LPDDR5X memory, which is soldered to the board, so the 32GB maximum is fixed at purchase whatever else you swap later. Choose the RAM carefully.
The upgrade promise, read carefully
Acer commits to supporting processor upgrades for two generations, which in practice means selling a replacement motherboard rather than a socketed chip. The company has not said what those boards will cost or when they will appear, and a repairability promise is only as good as the spare parts inventory behind it. Judge this one in 2028.
At launch the processor options run from the Intel Core Ultra 5 322 and Core Ultra 5 325 up through the Core Ultra 7 355, Core Ultra 9 386H and Core Ultra X7 358H, topping out with the Core Ultra X9 388H rated at up to 180 platform TOPS. Memory tops out at 32GB of LPDDR5X and storage at 512GB.
Screens and ports
All three display choices are 16-inch OLED panels covering 100% of DCI-P3 with a 100,000:1 contrast ratio. The top configuration is a WQXGA+ 2880 x 1800 panel at 120Hz and 400 nits. Below that sit two 1920 x 1200 options at 60Hz, one non-touch at 300 nits and one touch panel at 250 nits.
Port selection is generous for a thin notebook: two Thunderbolt 4 connectors, two USB Type-A ports (one 3.2 Gen 1, one Gen 2), a full-size SD card reader, HDMI 2.1 with HDCP and a 3.5mm audio jack. Wireless is Intel Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 5.6, and the 5MP infrared webcam has a physical privacy shutter.
The materials story
The Vero line has always been Acer's recycled-materials brand, and the 16 leans into it. The chassis is half post-industrial recycled aluminium and half low-carbon aluminium. The bottom cover is 60% post-consumer recycled plastic, the display bezels 30%, and the I/O covers 75% post-industrial recycled aluminium. The finish is a solvent-free powder coating, and Acer says the laptop meets MIL-STD-810H durability testing and ships in fully recyclable packaging.
"Sustainability should be built into every stage of a product's lifecycle—from raw materials all the way to packaging," said James Lin, general manager of notebooks at Acer. The company lists the Vero 16 as EPEAT Silver registered from 1 January 2027.
What to do now
Nothing, yet. There is no pre-order, no price and no confirmed date beyond the Q1 2027 window, and Acer's regional pricing typically lands a few weeks before shipping rather than at announcement. Buyers outside EMEA should treat this as a machine that may or may not reach them later.
