ColorOS 17 Closed Beta Opens, Marking the End of OxygenOS Branding

Oppo has opened closed beta testing for ColorOS 17, and the device list confirms something bigger than a routine software update: OnePlus and Realme phones are on it too, marking the clearest sign yet that OxygenOS and Realme UI are being folded into a single unified platform built on Android 17.

Which phones are eligible

The eligible device list differs by market, and it is worth checking carefully before applying.

In global and Indian markets, the closed beta covers:

• OnePlus 15
• OnePlus 15R
• Oppo Find X9 Pro
• Oppo Reno15 Pro
• Oppo Reno15 Pro Mini
• Realme GT 8 Pro

In China, a wider set of hardware is included:

• Oppo Find X9, Find X9 Pro, Find X9s Pro and Find X9 Ultra
• Oppo Find N6 and Pad 5 Pro
• OnePlus 15 and OnePlus 15T, plus the OnePlus Tablet 3 Pro
• Realme GT 8 Pro, including its Aston Martin F1 Limited Edition variant

Every other OnePlus, Oppo and Realme model, including older flagships, stays on its current build for now. Oppo has not said when the beta will expand to additional devices.

How to apply

On an eligible phone, the closed beta is requested from inside the software update settings rather than downloaded directly:

• Open Settings, then System & Updates, then Software Update
• Tap the three-dot menu below the battery icon
• Select Beta Program, then Closed Beta, then Apply
• Sign in with the Google account tied to the phone and complete a short qualification quiz

Slots are limited to roughly 300 testers per model, and applications are only open for a short window. Accepted testers should expect the beta build to arrive in batches, with rollouts scheduled for August 11 and August 13. Anyone who misses this round will need to wait for Oppo to reopen applications, since there is no way to sideload into the closed beta from outside the app.

Why the branding change matters

OnePlus has run OxygenOS as a distinct interface since 2014, and Realme has used its own Realme UI since splitting from Oppo's sub-brand structure. Folding both into ColorOS does not necessarily mean OnePlus and Realme phones will look identical to Oppo's, since manufacturers often keep separate visual themes and app sets on top of a shared code base. But it does mean the three brands will build future Android updates from one underlying platform rather than three, which should narrow the gap in how quickly each brand ships new Android versions and security patches going forward.

For owners of the eligible phones, that shared foundation is also why this closed beta exists at all: Oppo needs OnePlus and Realme hardware validated against the same ColorOS 17 code that its own Find and Reno phones are running before any of the three brands can move to a public beta.

What to expect if you are accepted

Closed betas carry the usual risks. Expect background restrictions, camera bugs, and battery drain that would not be acceptable on a finished release, and do not install it on a primary phone without a full backup first. Oppo has typically required testers to accept a non-disclosure agreement as part of the application, so screenshots and detailed change logs from this round may not surface publicly until closer to a public beta or the final release.
