One UI 9 Stable Hits Galaxy S26 in Korea First: About 650MB With the September Patch
Samsung began pushing the stable One UI 9 update, built on Android 17, to the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra on September 16, with South Korea getting it first. The over-the-air download weighs roughly 650MB, bundles the September 2026 security patch, and is due to reach other countries over the coming days.
This is the first time One UI 9 has shipped as a finished update to phones people already own. Until now it was only available preinstalled on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8, or through Samsung's beta programme, which opened on the S26 series in May and ran through seven builds.
Where the update is live, and the build to look for
Right now the rollout is confirmed only in South Korea. Samsung's own announcement describes a gradual expansion rather than a single global release, so owners in Europe, India, the US and elsewhere should expect it to arrive in waves. Samsung has not published a country-by-country schedule, and carrier-locked models have historically trailed unlocked ones.
Korean S26 units are receiving firmware ending in BZI6 (the S26 Ultra build is S948NKSU4BZI6). The size you see depends on where you are coming from:
- Beta testers moving to the final build get a smaller package, around 550MB.
- Everyone else gets the full update, reported at about 650MB.
- Both include the September 2026 Android security patch.
To check manually, open Settings > Software update > Download and install. The phone needs at least 30 percent battery before it will start installing, and Wi-Fi is the safer choice for a download this size.
What One UI 9 adds
The headline camera feature is My FanCam. Pick a person in a video you have already recorded and the phone reframes the clip so they stay centred, handy for school concerts and sports sidelines. It needs a Samsung Account signed in.
Galaxy AI gets a round of practical upgrades rather than one big new trick:
- Now Brief lets you generate and edit your own cards for health, weather and video.
- Now Nudge surfaces suggestions, such as a calendar event, in fewer steps while you are messaging.
- Interpreter adds a thread view for following a translated conversation, plus faster playback.
- Document Scan copes better with curled pages and folded corners.
- Voice Recorder summaries now come out with headings and tables.
A new Warranty and Care page in Settings shows your coverage, runs diagnostics, gives repair estimates and books service appointments. On the security side, Security Brief gathers alerts into Now Brief, and Privacy Alerts uses on-device AI to flag apps asking for permissions they do not need. Scam Detection is also expanding to Japan, Canada and India. As always with Samsung, individual features vary by country, language, model and carrier.
Which Galaxy devices come next
Samsung has not dated the update for any other device. Its announcement does, however, list the models that support Privacy Alerts in One UI 9, which is the clearest official signal of what is in line:
- Phones: Galaxy S25 and S25 FE, S24 and S24 FE, S23 and S23 FE
- Foldables: Galaxy Z Fold7 and Flip7, Fold6 and Flip6, Fold5 and Flip5
- Tablets: Galaxy Tab S11 Ultra and Tab S11, Tab S10 Ultra and Tab S10+, Tab S9 Ultra, Tab S9+ and Tab S9
