Nintendo's US eShop listing puts the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave file size at 29.5GB, four days before the game launches on 17 September. The UK listing for the same game shows a smaller 27.5GB, so the space you need depends on which regional store you buy from.

Fortune's Weave is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive developed by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. There is no version for the original Switch, and the store page lists TV, tabletop and handheld modes on Switch 2 only.

How big is the Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave download?

29.5GB on the US Nintendo Store product page, and 27.5GB on Nintendo's UK page. Both are marked as estimates. The US listing also carries Nintendo's standard warning that ratings and download size may not be final while the game is still on pre-order.

Nintendo has not explained the 2GB gap. The US page lists nine interface languages, among them Japanese, Korean and both Simplified and Traditional Chinese, and bundled language data is a common reason regional builds differ in size. That is a likely explanation, not a confirmed one.

For comparison with other recent Switch 2 downloads, Metroid Ravenous is listed at 20.2GB, Trails in the Sky 2nd Chapter needs 33.2GB on Switch 2 and Oblivion Remastered runs to 61.5GB. Fortune's Weave sits in the middle of that range.

Will Fortune's Weave fit on your Switch 2?

The Switch 2 ships with 256GB of internal storage, part of which is taken by system software. A 29.5GB install uses a little over a tenth of the total, which is manageable unless the console is already full of large downloads.

If you need more room, the Switch 2 only runs games from microSD Express cards. Older standard microSD cards still work for copying screenshots and videos, but the console will not install or play games from them. A day-one patch, if Nintendo releases one, would add to the listed size.

Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave price and editions

The game costs more on a physical card than as a download, a pricing split Nintendo has used for several first-party Switch 2 releases.

  • Digital: $69.99 on the Nintendo eShop
  • Physical: $79.99, the price Nintendo set on its product page in June
  • Dagdan Collection: a physical special edition with a steelbook case, character art cards, a map of Dagda and an artbook, listed at $119.99 by US retailers

Nintendo's listing does not say whether the boxed copy holds the full game on the card or is a game-key card that downloads it. If you buy physical to avoid the download, check the back of the box for the game-key card label before relying on that.

On the UK store, pre-order payments are taken automatically from seven days before release. That window opened on 10 September, so anyone who pre-ordered there has already been charged.

What else the store listing confirms

The eShop page lists single-player only, with no local or online multiplayer. It supports HDR output and linear PCM surround sound on compatible TVs, Save Data Cloud for Nintendo Switch Online members, and lending within a Nintendo Account family group.

The ESRB rating covers fantasy violence, mild language, suggestive themes and use of alcohol, and the page flags in-game purchases. Nintendo has not announced what those purchases will include or whether an expansion pass is planned.

What kind of Fire Emblem game is it?

Fortune's Weave is a turn-based tactics RPG set in the Dagdan Empire and shares a universe with Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Its story is split between two eras: a gladiatorial tournament called the Heroic Games in 1449, and a later campaign in 1454 after the demon god Balor revives.

You pick one of four protagonists, Cai, Theodora, Dietrich or Leda, each with their own route. Combat Arts, Gambits and weapon durability return from earlier entries, alongside new Blaze Arts and mounts such as the Ornius. If you want Fire Emblem on your phone while you wait, the free-to-play Fire Emblem Heroes just added Vista Heroes in version 10.9.0 on Android and iOS.
