Insomniac Games has released Marvel's Wolverine update 01.001.004, a hotfix that stops the game playing in the wrong language when your PS5 is not set to English, and clears two bugs that could block progress. The notes went up on Insomniac's support site in the early hours of 15 September, the same day the game launches.

Marvel's Wolverine is a PlayStation 5 exclusive, so this patch applies to PS5 and PS5 Pro only. There is no PC, Xbox or Switch version. Anyone starting the game today, from disc or digital, should let this update install before loading a save.

What Marvel's Wolverine update 01.001.004 fixes

The official notes are short. Insomniac describes the release as addressing issues ahead of the global launch, including potential progression blockers and English voice-over problems. The full list is three fixes:

  • English voice-over: English dialogue would not play if the console's system language was set to any other language.
  • Jean Grey mission bug: Jean Grey could drop out of a mission set in Japan.
  • Telambang prison door: Logan could fail to slide under a prison door in Telambang, which stopped you moving forward.

Insomniac has not published a download size for 01.001.004, and there are no balance, combat or performance changes listed. The pre-load was reported at 79.36GB before launch, so check you have some spare room beyond that for the day-one updates.

Why is Marvel's Wolverine in the wrong language?

This is the bug most players will run into. If your PS5 system language is anything other than English, such as French, German or Spanish, the game could play its voice acting in that language even with English selected in the game's own menu.

Insomniac published a separate support article about it a few hours after the patch. Its original workaround was to switch the console language to English and set the in-game language to English too. That is no longer necessary. The studio says the problem was addressed in version 01.001.004, and that your chosen in-game language should now apply correctly once the update is installed.

How to check you have the latest Wolverine patch

On the PS5 home screen, highlight Marvel's Wolverine, press the Options button and choose Check for Update. To confirm the version number, press Options again and select Information. It should read 01.001.004 or later.

Disc owners get the most out of this. Insomniac has said the disc holds the complete game and plays fully offline, but it has also recommended the day-one update for its polish and bug fixes. Its accessibility list marks several features as arriving through the launch update for disc copies, rather than on the disc itself:

  • Audio Description, an extra narration track for cinematics, in English, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Castilian Spanish and Japanese
  • Audio Descriptions Volume
  • Replay Cinematic, which restarts the cutscene you are watching
  • Quick access to Photo Mode

Playing without an internet connection is fine for the main game, but you will not get those extras, or today's three fixes, until the console downloads the patches.

What the patch does not change

A common question from players has been whether Logan's scent trail can be switched off. The update does not add a toggle. Insomniac's community lead said last week that the trail represents Logan's tracking senses and only appears when he is following a specific scent or sound, which is why there is no on/off setting. The Navigation Assist trail in the accessibility menu is a separate, optional feature.

Insomniac has continued to adjust its PS5 games after release, most recently with Marvel's Spider-Man 2 update 1.005.001 and its Fresh Start suit rework, made in response to player feedback. It has not announced what the next Wolverine update will contain. For other recent PS5 fixes, see our coverage of Silent Hill 2 patch 1.07 on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Frequently Asked Questions

Why is Marvel's Wolverine playing in another language when English is selected?

A launch bug made the game play voice acting in the PS5's system language when the console was set to anything other than English, even with English chosen in the game menu. Insomniac fixed it in update 01.001.004, released on 15 September. Install the update and the in-game language setting should apply correctly.

What does Marvel's Wolverine update 01.001.004 fix?

It fixes three problems: English voice-over not playing on consoles set to another language, Jean Grey dropping out of a mission in Japan, and Logan failing to slide under a prison door in Telambang. Insomniac lists no other changes in the notes.

Is Marvel's Wolverine playable from the disc without an update?

Yes. Insomniac has said the disc contains the full game and is playable offline. However, Audio Description, Replay Cinematic and quick access to Photo Mode arrive through the launch update for disc copies, and the 01.001.004 bug fixes also need a download.

Is Marvel's Wolverine on PC or Xbox?

No. Marvel's Wolverine launched on 15 September 2026 as a PlayStation 5 exclusive, playable on PS5 and PS5 Pro. Sony and Insomniac have not announced a PC or Xbox version.

Can you turn off the scent trail in Marvel's Wolverine?

No. Insomniac has said the scent trail only appears when Logan is tracking a specific scent or sound, so there is no toggle for it, and update 01.001.004 does not add one. The separate Navigation Assist trail in the accessibility settings can be switched on or off.
