Helldivers 2 Patch 7.0.1 Fixes Two Crashes and the Missing Stratagem Bug

Aditya Singh

Helldivers 2 patch 7.0.1 went live this morning, and it is a small, targeted hotfix rather than a content drop: three fixes, two of them crashes. Arrowhead published the notes at roughly 09:00 UTC on 17 August, and the update applies to PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

This is the first correction to Devoid of Liberty, the 7.0.0 update that landed on 12 August and opened the Void region. Anyone still logging in on 7.0.0 will be asked to download 7.0.1 before matchmaking.

What Helldivers 2 patch 7.0.1 actually changes

The notes are short enough to read in full in one breath. There are no weapon rebalances, no stratagem number changes and no new content. Every line is a bug fix:

  • Fixed a crash that could occur in fullscreen mode when opening terminals
  • Fixed a crash that could occur with superwide windows
  • Fixed an issue where the UI did not show all available stratagems in certain instances

The stratagem fix is the one most players will notice. Missing entries in the stratagem list meant divers loading into a mission without being able to call in gear they had already unlocked and equipped, which on higher difficulties is the difference between a clean extraction and a wipe. Arrowhead has not said what triggered it, only that the display was at fault rather than the loadout itself.

Which platforms and which players are affected

Both crash fixes are display-related, which makes them overwhelmingly a PC problem. The first involves fullscreen mode specifically, so windowed and borderless players were largely insulated from it. The second covers superwide window sizes — the territory of 21:9 and 32:9 ultrawide monitors, and of anyone running the game stretched across an unusual resolution.

Console players on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are still getting the patch, but the practical benefit there is the stratagem UI fix. Arrowhead did not publish a download size for 7.0.1 in the notes. Hotfixes of this scope are typically small, and it should install in the background on all three platforms without a manual reinstall.

How this fits with the Devoid of Liberty update

Version 7.0.0 was one of the larger updates of the year. It pushed the level cap to 300 with new rank titles, added Void reconnaissance and infiltration missions built around destroying Illuminate spires and gateways, and introduced two new mutated enemies: the Wretch, a fast flanker, and the Crusher, a heavy that regenerates if you let it. It also added SEAF platoons that drop in alongside your squad and hand out stims.

That is a lot of new systems shipping at once, and a hotfix five days later is the normal shape of a live-service launch cycle. It follows the Warhammer 40,000 crossover from earlier this month — we covered the Helldivers 2 Warhammer 40,000 Warbond and its Meltagun and Bolt Pistol when it was dated for 12 August.

What is not in the notes

The published notes end with a Known Issues heading and no entries beneath it, so there is no official list of outstanding bugs attached to this build. Treat anything circulating as still-broken as unconfirmed until Arrowhead posts it. There is also no mention of the Void difficulty tuning that has dominated community threads since 7.0.0 — that is a balance conversation, and 7.0.1 does not touch balance at all.

Rapid follow-up patches like this are common across the genre right now. Konami shipped a similar quick correction that we tracked in our piece on Silent Hill 2 patch 1.07 on PS5 and PS5 Pro, where the fix itself needed a second look.

If your controller is the thing failing rather than the game, that is a separate problem with separate answers — our guide to fixing stick drift on a PS5 DualSense covers the fixes that actually work, and if you play on a phone as well, we have tested Android games with full gamepad support with Xbox and PlayStation pads.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does Helldivers 2 patch 7.0.1 fix?

Three things. It fixes a crash that could happen in fullscreen mode when opening a terminal, a crash tied to superwide window sizes, and a bug where the interface did not display all of the stratagems available to you. There are no weapon or balance changes in this patch.

Is Helldivers 2 patch 7.0.1 on PS5 and Xbox?

Yes. The update covers PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S. Both crash fixes relate to PC display modes, so console players mainly benefit from the stratagem interface fix.

How big is the Helldivers 2 7.0.1 download?

Arrowhead did not list a file size in the patch notes. Hotfixes of this size are usually small and download automatically in the background, so you should not need to reinstall the game on any platform.

Do I need patch 7.0.1 to play Helldivers 2 online?

Yes. Helldivers 2 matchmaking requires everyone to be on the current client version, so you will need 7.0.1 installed before you can drop into missions with other players.

What was in the Devoid of Liberty update before this patch?

Update 7.0.0, released on 12 August, raised the level cap to 300, added Void missions against Illuminate spires and gateways, introduced the Wretch and Crusher enemies, and added SEAF platoons that fight alongside your squad and provide stims.
