The Finals Update 11.9.0 Patch Notes: Cloaking Device Nerf and a PS5 Crash Fix

The Finals update 11.9.0 went live on 10 September and it finally touches the Cloaking Device: stationary cloaked players now blend into the environment less, which makes them easier to spot before they are on top of you. Embark shipped the patch the same day across PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X and Series S, and it also carries an Evasive Dash buff, a Zipline rework and a crash fix for PS5 players.

What The Finals update 11.9.0 changes in a fight

Three balance entries, and only one of them is a nerf. Embark left the weapon roster alone this week and went after movement and stealth instead.

• Cloaking Device: a cloaked player standing still is now rendered with less blending against the surroundings, so the shimmer is more visible. Embark says outright it is not convinced this is the last change cloaking needs, and that anything further will wait until it has watched this one play out.
• Evasive Dash: cooldown down from 6 seconds to 5 seconds per charge. The 11.6 update had already cut it from 6.5 to 6 seconds, and the studio's note says that first trim did not land the way it wanted.
• Zipline: cooldown down from 37 seconds to 30 seconds, and maximum placement distance up from 40 metres to 50 metres. The stated goal is to make it competitive with the Jumppad and the Gateway, which have been eating its role.

The net effect is that Light builds keep their escape tool and get it back faster, while the payoff for sitting still under a cloak drops. If you have been losing duels to invisible opponents holding a corner, that is the line in these notes that matters to you.

Crash and performance fixes on PS5, Xbox and PC

The stability list is the longest section of the patch. A PS5 crash that could hit shortly after entering the Arena is fixed. On Xbox, the game no longer hangs when the console suspends it. On PC, a hang that showed up more often with NVIDIA DLSS Frame Generation enabled has been mitigated, and a crash when saving replay checkpoints is gone.

Server-side, Embark patched a rare hang triggered by processing corrupt network data. Two performance regressions were also cleaned up: some textures were using more memory than intended, and rendering work had picked up a minor CPU cost. Changing the Overall and Effects quality settings in-game is faster now too.

Smaller fixes round it out. The "Detect 5 opponents" contract was not counting tracking darts and now does, destruction sound effects were missing from several office props in Skyway Stadium, the Purple Reign jacket stops clipping through bandoliers and emblems, and the revive statue progress bar icon now animates in step with the respawn timer. The tutorial's second Cashout has been moved off the construction site.

Scorch Protocol, the Event Pass and what costs money

The dragon is back. Scorch Protocol is a Game Show event running in World Tour on Kyoto, Las Vegas, Bernal and Monaco, and it targets Cashout Stations, so defending a box is riskier than usual while it is live.

The paid additions are the Right to Strike Event Pass and the Silent Cypher Set. The Event Pass is on sale until 1 October, and once bought it can be completed at your own pace rather than against a clock, with a Legendary item as the final reward. The Silent Cypher Set is a DLC bundle containing an outfit, the Legendary Decryptor Edge Sword, an Epic emote and charm, plus 2,400 Multibucks. A Zolgabar Command set has also gone into the store.

The free route is Twitch drops. Watching any channel playing The Finals with drops enabled earns the Red Broadcast Blaze Hover Pad at one hour, the Barricade at two and the Tracking Dart at four. That campaign ends on 24 September, so it is a two-week window rather than a permanent unlock. Live-service deadlines like this are easy to miss, in the same way that the ARC Raiders Cred expiry deadline caught players out earlier this week.

Esports: three teams already through to the Grand Major

The Online Series is finished and three rosters have direct invitations to The Grand Major 2026 at DreamHack Stockholm: Five Fears from EMEA, Luminon Gaming from the Americas and KingZero from APAC. Sixteen teams will play for $150,000 from 27 to 29 November, and thirteen slots are still open through the Closed Qualifiers. APAC's Closed Qualifier field is already set; the Americas and EMEA Open Qualifiers are still taking sign-ups.

Update 11.9.0 downloads automatically on all three platforms, and there is no separate console version number to check.
